Dreaded Rear Hatch Squeak!!
Dreaded Rear Hatch Squeak!!
This is so annoying!!! I cant stand it!! is there any way to stop the rear hatch frome squeaking? everytime i drive i hear it..unless i turn my radio way up..its so damn annoying. Not to mention the way the hatch sounds when you go over a bump..i tried moving the latch assembly..and it still didnt help..any fixes?
Re: Dreaded Rear Hatch Squeak!!
I know this sounds really ghetto, buuuuut.....
Take some electrical tape and wrap it a couple of times around the U shaped bar that goes down into the latch. If it's your hatch rattling then this will stop it.

This sounds really super ghetto. but I swear by it. Get a bar of soap and make sure it has a little moisture, and rub it on the rubber on the hatch and it won't squeak anymore. I thought the idea was bogus the first time I heard it, but try it and you will be a believer.
Re: Dreaded Rear Hatch Squeak!!
I have the squeek as well, and it's really really bad. I've been looking for a few days now, I've adjusted every single screw/bolt I can think of.
I will try the electrical tape idea, I'm not sure if I wanna rub soap all over the rubber. Are you positive soap is 'ok' for use on the rubber stuff?

Hey Bro,
I had my Z almost 10 years and will tell you your problem is the latch itself and would need to be replaced because the rubber coating is warn out.
Like someone said in the above post, wrap a little electrical tape around the striker that the latch hooks onto, and that band aid should last 6-9 months!
Trust me it works excellent!!!!

Sounds excellent. I just adjusted the latch thingy, so now it's down quite a bit lower. Very hard to get the hatch to close now, but I"m hoping it'll hold it down nice and tight. I also put a tiny bit of electrical tape around the striker thingy. How much tape did you guys use? Wrap the entire striker (sides included) then do a second pass or what?
