Do I have a chance against a 03 Mach 1

Hello all, I know this has been posted before. My uncle just bought a 03 mustang mach 1 and he had to start running his mouth last night so I am going to be racing him this weekend. He has the stick version, and is a ok driver... to my knowledge the only mod he has done is a K&N filter and a Flowmaster exhaust (just the cat back)

Here are my mods, please let me know your opinions. I will post results on Sat. night when I get back.

- 95 LT1, Accel 300+ ignition, Full exhaust, Moroso CAI, TB bypass, PCMforLess tune, TB air foil, Accel 900 wires, SLP lightweight flywheel, PP and cluch, Aluminum DS, T2R /w 3.42 gears, M29 tranny, No back seat, no headliner, no interior plastic, No A/C (heater box still in car), Forza seats, SFC, LCA, Elec. Water pump, Spohn TQ arm,32/21 sway bars, BMR kmember, A-Arm package, STB, PHB. and the rest of the mods in the sig.

Edit: I have not taken my car to the track since I installed most of the mods.

I'd say you have a very good chance.

Weight or lack-there-of makes a huge difference. I think you'll win. Plus, aren't those Mustangs damn heavy from the factory anyway? I have heard that the '03 and '04 Cobras are like 3700 pounds without a driver:eek:

Being the only mods are his car being gutted....I think he would probably be taken. If driven right, I heard those Stangs can run low 13's....

Mach1 usually run mid to high 13. So your right there with him and since your car is in a diet id say youll probably take him. Sure they may be able to run a 13.3-4 but that is ona extremely well preped track and great conditions.

i would say with your mods, and the lighter weight..you'll get him easy.

those run mid to mild-low 13s stock with traction and good drivers. and you should be there or better with the weight reduction and hp numbers.

make sure you get traction and he'll have a hard time keeping up.

Driven properly, a stock '03 Cobra is in the mid to high 12s. Driven improperly, I've seen '03+ Cobras and Z06s run 14s. You have a chance, but I say it depends on driver skill - yours and his.
how'd a cobra get into this?, I think you have a good chance...should be a close race

Thanks everyone for the replies, I figured I would have better then a 50% chance of beating him.

Since I have the suspension mods done i have have great traction with the tires in the sig, but I have never dumped the clutch above 4000rpm. And I havn't run the car on the track yet (with the new setup)

How fast are the new cobra's? Are they all supercharged? And what do the new 05's run...

There isnt going to be a 05 Cobra...believe the next one will be out 2006...your cars definately in the low 13's....maybe even 12's...btw fastest Mach 1 stock time ive seen so far was a 13.1...believe a few have ran 13.0's

im just wondering how a mach 1 with the same power as a LT1 SS is running almost a full second faster. is it gearing , a better power range in the RPMs , the 4 valves per cylinder (they do have 4 per right? lol) sombody make it clear

BTW my buddy has a 04 Mach1 (stock)and i also challenged him to a race , seeing my car is almost stock id lose, but next year ill haev headers and a few othe trick up my sleave, well have to c what teh look on his face will be

Fastest Mach I've seen is 12.8, with DR.
But, that's modded all to hell on this board.
Anyway, as I said before, a gutted/modded LT1 had better beat a stock Mach1 if not, DO NOT POST YOUR LOSS! :eek:

Lol, I think he meant dousche instead of cleanse. :bow: J/K I guess Mustangs are okay but out of every five or six cars I see on the road, one is a Mustang. No joke.

Gearing has something to do w/ it, but Ill tell you a 5spd mach 1 puts down a whole he!! alot more power then a LT1(thats including the SS)...Not sure where your getting your figures from.

Maybe I can chime in and offer a little insight.
I just got back from a huge event Saturday over at www.mooresvilledragway.com

I got booted in the first round of the competition , but still managed to
test-n-tune on the street tires. I made 4 passes and my best one was an 8.61 @ 82.8 mph while my worst was an 8.77 @ 81.2 mph.

I have flowmaster mufflers welded in place , but no other mods whatsoever.
If you can drive really well you do have a shot with your weight reduction mods. No gaurantees though either way :)

Just run him and find out.....be sure to let us know.

i was just comparing factory ratings, i figured one of the reaons were that supposidly they are underrated
