RedHottG2 10-21-2004, 12:15 PM I work at a ford dealership and there is a guy I work with that says no F-body would be worth a damn in auto cross racing. Can someone post pics of our cars auto cross racing and some info on how our cars perform at this. I'm sure they do great, I just need some back up. :)
Z28SORR 10-21-2004, 12:31 PM Send this site to your friend and tell him to look at the different class winners.

Jeff94TA 10-21-2004, 04:44 PM Our cars are very competitive in autocross where the Mustang guys need quite a few suspension upgrades just to get to where ours are stock. You can check out my clubs August Top 20 here (http://www.martinsportscarclub.com/2EventResults/08_August2004_Top20.htm) and notice that I'm 3rd overall out of a 62 car field. That Mustang GT that is 6th overall is a heavily modified car running in race class while my stock motored car is running in prepared. Oh and yes if you read my signature you'll notice the car is an automatic.
I'm not sure what a picture is going to prove but here is one from last month.

Jabberwocky 10-21-2004, 10:34 PM I don't think anyone will be convince by pictures. Here are some examples of local results from my region:

Most fbodies will either run in E street prepared or Fstock or CP

Z28SORR 10-22-2004, 12:56 PM Your buddy needs a history lesson. I've been around since all this started, and I can't think of a single year when the Mustangs out handled the Camaro's, stock for stock production cars. The 69 Z and Shelby were probably as close as the two have ever been. During the 60's and 70's both were in the same SCCA stock class. Few Mustangs were able to take fast time of the day in this class. Few Camaro's(modified or not) would take, overall, fast time of the day, but many were in the top 5. Much depended on how the coarse was layed out.
Tell your buddy to take his "stock" Cobra to the next SCCA regional event and challenge some of the "SS" guys there, and see what happens.
RedHottG2 10-22-2004, 03:23 PM Thanks for the pics/vids guys!! He atleast admited to me today after I showed him this that our cars can do this besides just being a straight line stop and go car.
MustangEater82 10-22-2004, 05:13 PM Here is my stock 2000 v6(probably the worst suspension on 4th gens), with ~40k on the stock shocks.

Where is that pic of a race prepped 4th gen pulling a front wheel on a corner?
2002Z28SSConv 10-25-2004, 10:28 AM My mildly changed mostly stock SS does rather well too. Just ask Jeff94TA. We are both usually in the top 10 and rarely miss the top 20. That's in a club with 65 - 80 monthly participants.
Keep in mind though, autocrossing requires skill behind the wheel, not the fastest car. That's why most of us like it so much. Drag racing is mostly a mechanical competition where the cars compete. Autocrossing competitively requires just as much setup and tuning as the strip. But the human factor is the biggest variable in the outcome of the race.

I have a similiar setup, but by the looks of the cars you're beating, you can flat drive

Thanks for the compliment and it's the guy in that little orange SS vert in the post above yours that keeps me on my toes. Unfortuneately he beats me more than I beat him but I'm working on that. :D Oh and I will admit that's my best overall finish to date.

I had Nitto drag radials on all four corners, the Cobra was wearing Hoosier road race tires.
