Threw out the K&N today

After takeing out my k&n filter from my slp lid, i saw dust and friggen grime all over the place. Needless to say the filter didnt do its job. I was going to oil it, but the just decided to toss it. 9.99 for a fram air filter that fits nice and snug in the airbox. The K&N didnt fit as well as the paper filter. So chalk up yet another one for paper over k&N. I just couldnt believe all the crap that got by the filter. Kinda scary

Re: Threw out the K&N today

I got 38k miles on my WS6 and I just recharged the filter today and no grime....

I also have an SLP lid.

Did you take out your plastic bracket thingy from the air box...?

My friend had the same problem as you described, but it was because that piece was removed and caused his SLP lid to not fit as snug as it should on the right side of the housing letting grime and crap straight passed the K&N!!!

He put that piece back in and no more crap build up.

I put the K&N on the SS with some extra foam to seal it up and put a paper filter in the Formy.

What? is that english?..lol

well, i didnt through the k&n out cause the fram doesnt fit too well. Its TOO snug with the SLP Lid. So now i have to go back to the K&N...lol until i find a better fitting paper one.

What really scared me is all the crap that got by my filter. I can only imagine what my MAF looks like

Are you talking about the foam piece that goes around the top of the paper filter?

The model of K&N that I have needed some extra foam around the sealing edge to make it fit tight enough to keep all the dirt out. Even with the stock lid.

Yeah i forgot about that. Unfortunately my Autozone doesnt carry ac delco, only stp and fram. Looks like i will be going to pep boys or some thing. I put my K&N Back in today and it seals, but not the best. I had to push it down and HOLD it down then quickly place the lid ontop before anything moved. When i had the fram on my car was running at 210* in 40* weather. Witht eh k&n my car was running at 130* in the same temp
