Ultra Z hood owners, input please...

Obviously, the SLP Ultra Z hood is the best hood for the Camaros and I'm getting serious about getting one. (BTW, serious for me means in the next 6 months.)

So, I'm just looking for fit/finish issues that are generally associated with this hood and any other fit/finish "gotchas". How much was paint/fab for your hood?

Also, where did everyone get their hood and what kind of deal did you get on it? I have seen that www.ftforce.com has the hood and airbox for $799. Yes, this sounds too good to be true, so I e-mailed them last night, but I haven't received a response from them yet.

Last, does anyone have a Purple Pearl Ultra Z hood they want to sell, cheap?

i believe SLP is cheaper...i paid $599 for mine when it was on sale last year i am not sure if its still on sale. YOu can get a used WS6 RAM AIR box for around 150 from a junkyard place like speedautomotive or billy graham.

Wolf, I have looked at that hood before too, but I always thought it was a bit much for me (looks-wise). However, I would probably seriously consider it if I hadn't already seen two of them in town. One of which, happens to be about a block away from where I work. On the other hand, I have only seen one SLP Ultra Z hood in town and that was on a 99+ Z. Still, I didn't know that hood was functional, which does make it interesting.

xxsaint69x, it was your car that really convinced me to go with the Ultra Z. I had thought of "compromising" and getting the Z-style hood from Suncoast until I ran across your web page with all the different angles of your photos.

FWIW, I just got a reply back from FTForce and they said that their $799 price does not include the airbox, so they're out. I'm really hoping that either SLP or one of the vendors will run a special on those hoods again. I know Tom Byrne runs specials on them from time to time, so I'm keeping an eye out.

xxsaint69x, what, if any, problems did you run into when getting your hood prepped/painted? How much did it cost you?

i am not sure if it is different, but my friend ordered an ultra z hood for his LS1 and it did not sit straight at all! he took it to a body shop to have it fitted and stuff, and they said it was warped. so he sent it back to SLP and they put it in a jig before sending him another one that sat great but needed about 1.5 inches trimmed off the length on the right headlamp. either one of them could have worked if he wanted to spend another $500 just to get it fitted.
