I finally bought a house with a big ass garage so I can work on the z all winter. My goal is mid to high 12's. I have an '02 z28 with only a Loudmouth and K&N. Lookin for mainly bolt on's and ways to get it to the ground. I would like to stay N/A. Is this number attainable with bolt ons? Thanx for any help.

guys ran high 12s with just slicks on a bone stock 02 ls1....so yeah...bolt ons 11s are possible.

SSRA, lid, longtube headers, tune, sfc, lower control arms and brackets and sticky tires should have you mid/low 12s with good driving skills.

is it an auto? if so get a decent stall converter and 3.73 gears
manual....a good shifter and shift light and some 4.10 grs

Check Sig....

Drive it like you sole it. Some headers too won't hurt the 1/4 mile times.

If you can't drive, just add a little N20 and you'll be there real fast.

You should be in the high 12's already those 02's run real hard

Nice thought, but, unfortunately it still takes a few extra parts to get there:rolleyes:. Hell, my best time is a 13.02, yet the last 2 weeks in a row, I haven't run any quicker than 13.47!?:irk: For whatever reason (I think it's been traction) I can't get any quicker than 2.1 60' times, so 1.9's and 13.0's have been completely out of the question.........yet a month ago I thought I was on the verge of 12's with nothing more than the 4.10 gears I've got;).

My best is a 12.46 @ 112.6 w/ a 1.9 60' and a 8.0 1/8 @ 89 mph w. only Air Lid, No Filter, Loudmouth, and 4.10 gear. :D

You seem to have more problems then the average 01/02 in getting into the 12's..A well driven 02 6spd if not there should be knocking on the doors of 12's stock...as for autos gears should get ya there

Drop those 4.10's to 3.73's on the a4 and you'll be 12's.

Thanx for the help guys. My car is an M6, and I think I have some driving skills ;)

I had no idea the '02's were so strong. What does a typical SS or WS6 of the same year turn stock?? I see alot of people with "free mods" Do they really work and is there a noticable gain?

Just because YOURS won't get there doesn't mean no one elses will ;)

well, sometimes it depends if the Joe the engine guy on the assembly line was having a good day or bad day. If your motor was built on a Monday, no stock 12's for you. Joe was depressed because it was Monday. If it was built on Friday, forget about it. Joe was thinking about the weekend, not about your motor. So that leaves Tuesday, Wensday and Thrusday as good days for Joe. So you have a 3 out of 5 chance of having a strong motor :p

Stock horsepower will vary from car to car. That is why it may be easier for some guys to get into the 12's than others. Then there is always the factory freak that ran 12's bone stock, I think some magazine tested one that ran 12.89 bone stock.

You can be in the 12's with less than $250 in mods. Get some sticky tires with that money and head up to the track. Also do the free ram air mod and you can hack saw off the muffler for free too.

my all time bone stock was 13.08 @ 106 in crappy weather, at 32 psi street tires, after doing burnouts and leaving the engine running in the staging lanes. I could have probably hit 12s in my stock '98. Just gotta know how to drive.

I had 3.73's last year and ran a best of 13.43 @ 104.....some improvement:rolleyes:.

Believe this or not, but even with 4.10 gears, the car bogs off the line. What I (and every A4) need is a stall converter. Solid 12's for sure:thumb:.

A friend of mine has a 2000 SS that ran a 12.8 with stock radials and just an SLP lid. He has slicks now and runs 12.7s.

I've never dragged my 2000 SS so I dunno what my 1/4 time is.

he only picked up .1 tenth from slicks? that doesn't sound right.

Well they weren't really slicks, they were ET streets.

Doesn't matter...Even w/ Drag Radials he should pick up about .3-.4 tenths. and even more on ET Steets.

I want to know how to pick up a half second with ET streets.

Well considering most street tires are 2.0-2.2 60's...And ET Streets 1.6-1.8, There ya go. ;)

how safe (driving conditions, like in slippery roads) and reliable are drag nitto tires?

Actually great when dry...but slippery? :D ;)

Don't even dry when its wet.

that's not true at all. i drive on my nittos in the rain all the time. if you drive normally, they're not bad at all in the wet. (until of course the get REALLY bald, then any tire is dangerous.)

i even drove on my nittos in the snow last year (although THAT was definitely not a fun experience!) ;) but honestly, nittos aren't bad on wet roads, trust me.

Def. agree, I'm just sayin don't use them too much once the miles start racking up on them..My Brand New nittos were actually great in the rain!

If you got the power and the skills to be putting down 1.8 with ET streets ... you've got the power and skills to put down 1.9 on street tires.

And if you have the power and skills to be putting down 1.6s on ET streets, you know better than to ever try and launch that set up on street tires.

Reality ... ET streets might make up a tenth in your 60' and you'll be giving some of it back down track with the rolling resistance over street tires.

My apologies to Henny Youngman. :D

See sig - that was with a 1.909 60' on Kumhos @ 30 ish psi - whatever they were when I drove off the street on to the track. I launched at 1500 RPM.

Hell, first run of that night - track conditions were perfect ! - was a 12.917 @ 107.32 , launching at idle. :p

Basic free mods (FRA, EGR ! - kind of a misnomer as the EGR is still there, just the tube where it goes into the intake was hacked off ), TPS, Lid, K & N , HPP III , Borla, and , of course, a 3200 stall. ;)

Of those , after the stall I'd say the best mod is the FRA, and the HPPIII seemed to help a good bit as well , judging by the ol' butt meter.

Your results may vary.

Good Luck ! And, have fun.

I've put down a 2.0 60' time on Sumitomo with 15,000 hard miles on them(about 1/4 tread left). Although the track where I went to is always well prepped and much stickier than the street. All I did was hold the brake and rev the engine to 1300 RPM and let off the brake while rolling onto the gas at the same time. The secret is rolling onto the gas, and not stabbing it. I ran a 8.59 6 times that night, and no slower than a 8.61

yeah my potenza's were running 2.0-2.2 all day and I even ran a 1.9 @20 psi last week. Just dumped the clutch at 3k and it hooked. Not really worth it to me to sacrifice daily driving for a couple of trips to the track, I say go with firestone firehawks next best thing to drag radials.
