That picnic table of a spoiler actually looks to be a retractable one....at least I hope so.

Looks pretty good otherwise.

Toyota 's been caught testing what some insiders are calling the "TXS," a limited-production exotic that might be powered by a V-10 engine worth 500 hp.

First the mediocre I-Force V8, now a V10. Seems as though Toyota is getting the picture.

Anyone else find this hilarous?
Toyota, A company of boring, bland, and depressing cars is now going to make some sort of super car?
All this time in F1 has made there heads big. God knows that have tons of money to pour into this car.

A long time ago I remember seeing a blurb in MT about a Toyota supercar powered by V10. Perhaps this is it.

They mentioned that the top speed could be 190mph. That's it? And it's a supercar with 500 HP? They also said it could be in the same league as Ford GT. I don't know what they mean by league, but GT topped 200 mph, so I don't think it's in the same league.

Looks like there's a lot of uncertainty there, we'll see if this thing will even be brought to the market.

while i'm sure it'll be a fast car, i am betting that the short block wont be able to take the power of the the old supra. people were able to put 1000hp on the stock pistons. doesn't matter anyways, they will out do themselves and over price it. so i guess i might be able to pic one up for 30k around 2010.

:)

edit: but after looking at the pics for a while, it looks very similar to the gillardo (sp?)

I find it very smart. First off, like you said, Toyota's line-up is somewhat boring to many (not me, being a hybrid fan) so why not try a new image car? Compete with the supercars a little...2ndly, Its freak'n Toyota, they have more money than they know what to do with right now, they NEED to start coming out with more supercar projects rather than spending that money on bread and butter cars, otherwise it will just hurt GM/Ford/Chrysler sales more. This is a GOOD thing Al ;)

It's a weird day when we can look at a 500 horse power car and say "Its ok, but that's nothing overly spectacular."

Well, the Supra is still one of the highest regarded cars out there right now. The prices for them are outrageous.

Im glad the Supra is such a popular car...but it no longer exists, so its a moot point.

Yup. Kind of like the 17+ year old Buick GN, they'll be highly regarded and respected for years to come. Awesome cars.

Too bad Toyota isn't serious about bringing it back to its old glory :(. A 500hp Toyota supercar is nice, but that doesn't excite me nearly as much as a future gen 400+hp TT I6 Supra.

The point is, is that Toyota CAN come out with a supercar and nobody can laugh at them or not take them seriously because of their history with the Supra.

Thats what I was thinking too.

Looks like it should be a decent looking car. But that torque rating :dead:. Hopefully thats wrong.

You generally need a large engine (lots of Liters/cubic inches) to have a lot of torque. I didn't read the entire article to see how many liters the engine is, but I am going to assume less than 5L. The Ferrari 360 Modena has like 390 horsepower, but only 290 lb-ft of torque. The V-8 is only like 3.6L. Our Z28s and SSes have between 275 and 325 HP and have 300 to 350 or more lb-ft of torque.

Yeah like its gonna compete with the Ford GT with only 370 pounds of torque...

Sorry, no reverence here for the Supra. When I go out cruising on Friday or Saturday night and look at what's at the local cruise-in's, I see Torino GT's, Stingray Corvette 427's, Trans Ams, Challengers, 5L Mustangs, and Camaros. The occasional sport import seems like a mosquito buzzing by :D

As for this new Toyota supercar, as usual when anyone OTHER than GM tries to put out a hi-power sports car, it's well north of $100k

at least it looks good, but I'm predicting that this will be Toyota's version of the NSX: great styling and space-age technology, decent but not ground-breaking performance numbers, and a woefully bloated price tag...
