Quotes from article:
"There will also be one more product, a little something that will have to remain up our sleeves for the moment. All I can say now is that you won't be disappointed."
"There was a time when people lusted after Pontiac cars. The first GTO, the Firebird and Trans Am, the Fiero...when we had cars like these to bring people into your stores, sales were great. When we didn't, sales werent."
This mystery vehicle doesnt sound like the upcoming Torrent. Nice suprise to see the other great models mentioned. Sounds like Pontiac is indeed moving in the right direction.
number77 10-04-2004, 11:21 PM yea, someone posted a pic like 2 days ago of it, wait no that was a saturn. They could be talking about a solstice or something though right?
Big Als Z 10-04-2004, 11:47 PM Nah, the solstice is pretty big and they show it on there site. This car could be the upcoming "G8" or whatever. They havent said anything about that yet.
90 Z28SS 10-04-2004, 11:54 PM Hmmm , I guessing its a Bimmer 1 series type car of Kappa . There not getting a small car off the cobalt chassis and there hasnt been a wimper from Pontiac about a new small car , especially a RWD small sedan that actually might be pretty damn cool .
godofdragons 10-04-2004, 11:59 PM maybe its a firebird. hey, they could have been lying.what a coverup though.
Big Als Z 10-05-2004, 12:02 AM XP54 based Firebird to join Camaro!
Brangeta 10-05-2004, 12:48 AM Doesn't sound like the Firebird considering they say the GTO and Solstice will be the Pontiac image leaders. I bet they are referring to something simple and sporty like the Pontiac G4 (the pursuit vehicle thing in Canada/Mexico).
Too bad really... I was hoping for a new Firebird/Trans Am...
Skull Leader 10-05-2004, 01:14 AM If the name is not FIREBIRD, I'll continue my boycott of GM/Pontiac 4 LIFE.
shotgun 10-05-2004, 01:58 AM Well it has to be something that pops and gets attention if that’s their plan right? Maybe a sports car based off the c6 under pinning? XLR, Corvette, ??????. I know pontiac in the 60s made a fiberglass concept car that looked just as good if not better than the corvette and GM pulled it because chevrolet was there pride and joy and no one was going to mess with the 'vette. I don't think that really applies anymore so anything is possible I guess. I'm probably completely wrong though of course... or maybe its just a GTO Judge or a G6+ (think ctsv.)
Big Als Z 10-05-2004, 02:17 AM I say its the RWD/AWD G8 with the LS2.
Meccadeth 10-05-2004, 06:47 AM I really do want to see the Firebird come back. It would be hard to top the late 4th gens, but if it looks anything like the Camaro concepts we've been seeing, but with more Firebird styling hues, I think it could be a freak'n awesome mean looking vehicle.
Anybody think it could be a limited production y-body?? (Before somebody goes ape sh.. on me, I highlighted "LIMITED" for you so you know I'm not talking about some huge mass production being added to the plant) Remember GM has been touting about how their going to do this "rapid-fire" new product thing...imagine a Pontiac styled 'Vette type thing
Probably a Turbo GXP Solstice
number77 10-05-2004, 10:27 AM Probably a Turbo GXP Solstice
with a saab powertrain?
with a saab powertrain?
Probably Turbo 2.4L Ecotec
ckt101 10-05-2004, 03:59 PM Maybe there is going to be a special edition pink aztek with purple racing stripes to celebrate its final year.
Good Ph.D 10-05-2004, 04:22 PM I wouldn't dream they would bring back the Bird before the Camaro, but i'm new to this sort of thing so i dont know. As long as it doesen't suck. I'm trying to be a GM guy... I really am. :(
MissedShift 10-05-2004, 04:40 PM I say its the RWD/AWD G8 with the LS2.
Ya... Im thinking a RWD Bonneville replacement, with optional AWD and Gen IV V8s... Of course, this IS GM, so expect a torque-managed 4 speed slushbox, even though by the time it debuts, there'll be a wonderful 5 or 6 speed auto sitting in the parts bin, right next to the abandoned manuals...
guionM 10-05-2004, 10:27 PM He mentioned GTO and Trans Am like they were separate cars. He also pointedly references "cars that brought people into the showroom.
Because of this, my belief he isn't talking about sedans, and the fact that Solstice & GTO are going to be the 2 excitement cars at Pontiac, I suspect he is talking about a very high performance and affordable Solstice, possibly based on the hardtop concept version of a few years ago.

If that comes true, I'll be first in line to buy one. I love the solstice, but I really want a hard top version. Add high-performance + affordable?   SOLD!
Brangeta 10-05-2004, 11:03 PM Come on... you're pulling my leg... you actually like the hardtop solstice concept?
It's so awkward! It looks just like one of those old Cheetahs.

Ah...please remember to try and devide old GM from new GM.
Zeta would be new GM, and is designed to use the new 6spd auto trans, because Holden doesnt wait for GM to move along with technology, they do it themselves.
gtjeff 10-06-2004, 12:26 AM Since we are on the subject of Pontiac, did anyone notice the full page ad in USA Today on Thursday 9/30 highlighting the fact that they have won 5 of 9 races in the mid-engine rolex series (their 1st year of competition in this new series). Interesting they chose to re-enter mid-engine racing now?
Ramune 10-06-2004, 12:29 AM I'd probably crap my pants if it turned out to be the firebird. I bet everybody else on this site would as well. Therefore, I'd say it's going to turn out like the Capone safe.
Now here's a question, would people wait for the Camaro if the Firebird came back first?

I would...
I wonder if any of this has to do with Guys Newsflash... (http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303005&page=2) ??
Brangeta 10-06-2004, 04:11 PM I'd wait for the Camaro, the Firebird has always been too aggressive for me. Oh, plus they usually cost more and cost more to insure. But... I'd still crap my pants either way.
PacerX 10-06-2004, 05:08 PM Anybody think it could be a limited production y-body??... imagine a Pontiac styled 'Vette type thing
Sure, could be...
What's the temperature in Hell?
Might be fun to see a certain VLE's reaction if it got pushed through though.

Easy big guy... anything Solstice makes my wife's loins quiver.
F**k that up for me and we're gonna have us a problem...
Stealth 86 LSC 10-06-2004, 05:32 PM considering the cheetah was a styling inspiration for the solstice, i wouldnt doubt some similairities(sp)
Brangeta 10-07-2004, 12:11 AM :o Oh... then they did a good job of that!

It's not necessarily that I liked the hard tops design better, but I do think it looks good from the front. I more or less just prefer the higher rigidity/less weight that a hard top usually provides.
