I have been logging with datamaster on my 1997 Trans Am that has an OBD 1 conversion.
Normally at idle, I get anywhere from .5 to 1.0 degree of retard. Driving around is about the same and no matter what RPM, When I got WOT it goes to about 3-4 degrees of retard.
This is all on a tuned PCM from Bryan at PCMforLess, I tried putting the stock computer back in to see if Bryan had it too lean or too much timing, And that had no success, same symptoms.
I have tried adjusting the rockers numerous times and making sure they are all good, and I have made sure there is no exhaust leaks.
I would try to put some good gas in it, like some race gas, but since its pulling knock at idle and part throttle, I have serious doubt it is real knock.
Any suggestions on what to do?
I have a LT4 knock module, is there any way to desensitize this or help me out.
Even though I have adjusted the rockers numerous times, They are still pretty noisy, But I always remember the roller rockers being noisy on my car.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

Did PCMforless tune the PCM to accept the OBD2 knock sensor on the block ? OR Did you change the obd2 knock sensor to an obd1 knock sensor? ( this has nothing to do with the Knock Module in the PCM)

I would be very interested in seeing that file.
I've had similar problems on a couple of cars I tuned before, and realized that I had forgotten to change 1 table.
If you wouldn't mind, e-mail me your file and if it's the same thing I had problems with before I can fix it and send it back to you. :)

Ill let the cat out of the bag here guys.
The tables in LT1 edit called MAX RETARD vs MAP are notorious for causing mystery RETARD. Zero out this whole table. Also the one line in LT1_edits ignition box to the right called %diff in airflow to trigger burst should have a ZERO in it as well to disable burst knock on rapid throttle position change.
Its so annoying when pro/advanced tuners that wont tell people the little tricks like these. So I will spill the beans FREE OF CHARGE.

I believe zeroing out the MAX RETARD vs MAP is only gonna prevent it from retarding timing when knock is sensed, weather it is true knock or false. The values in the MAX RETARD vs MAP table and Burst knock table and others as such are just the max amount it can retard during knock. Zeroing them in essence shuts it off. I use Tuner cat, but its basically the same as LT1 edit. I too have the same problem and have found it to be false knock. I also zeroed out the vs Map and also the WOT table.

Some of you guys are so impatient. :)
It's no secret though, it's just something that I often see overlooked. I don't know if it's because it was added to a recent definition file for tunercat or what. Heck, I don't even know if the table is included in LT1 edit?
There is a table that adds timing for EGR. If the EGR is disabled then zero out this table.
I've done this on a couple of cars locally that were getting a tiny bit of retard under all conditions, and had a couple people e-mail me their files complaining of the same thing. Zeroing out this table has worked each time.
Wow, big secret huh?
