jeremyferguson 09-30-2004, 01:22 PM I haven't been to the track in two years, which was also my first time, but I'm just finishing up a pretty big round of mods. and just curious if anyone has some guesses. I know there are a lot of variables: prep, driving, weather, etc.....when I went to the track two years ago the car was completely stock down to the paper air filter, and bald GSC's(original at the time)....ran 14.98 at 93 with horrible 60 ft. and wheelspin(the car came with 3.23's).
Its pretty late in the year so the air will be pretty cool (50-65) and I think Detroit is pretty close to sea level.
I'll try to list only things that will be relavent.
Here's what it is:
'97 z28 a4 convertible
k&n FIPK.
jet-hot LT's.
2.5" true duals.
LT4 km.
all the free mods.
3400 stall vigi 9.5" lockup.
trans-go shift kit at level 3.
3.73 strange w/TA stud girdle kit.
tubular k-member, LCA's, PHB, A-arms
275/40 nitto extreme drags
walbro 255 intank.
NX wet kit spraying either 100 or 150, maybe both, I dunno.
removed front sway bar.
Anybody want to guess on n/a and n20??? Any input will be appreciated.
taner 09-30-2004, 09:47 PM i always enjoy guessing et's.
n/a 12.80
100 shot = 11.95
150 shot = 11.70
dr's are your limiting factor.

Man, I would love to be runnin 12's n/a :D and breaking into 11's, that brings a tear to my eye ;)
I have to say too that I'm kinda starstruck after seeing your videos that you responded to my thread....that thing is crazy!! And congrats on the new best. I just noticed your location is windsor, what track to you go to?
taner 09-30-2004, 10:14 PM my car ran 12.76 @ 109.8mph when it had only boltons on et streets! :) that was just as much fun!!!
i am no different than anyone else on this board, hell i will respond to almost anything that grabs my attention.
st.thomas dragway
grand bend motorplex
milan
mid michigan motorplex.
next stop...... No Problem Raceway Louisiana! it is the Super bowl for late model GM efi :)
jeremyferguson 09-30-2004, 10:41 PM I really do appreciate the input. Man, I wish I could get to Milan acouple times per summer, let alone going down to louisiana to race! That's got to be crazy fun!
I'll report back after the track and hopefully those numbers are right on.
taner 09-30-2004, 10:43 PM beg, borrow or steel a pair of 26" et streets you need them on spray :)
look forward to hearing back!

How about if I seize a set of yours next time you cross the border
just kidding(I think I could get in trouble for just typing that). I'll probaby buy some over the winter for next spring...
andy katzelis 10-01-2004, 09:51 AM I ran your set up through quarter jr and got 13.25 @ 105 with tire spin. Any thing but wrinkle walls is going to kill ya with that big converter. Seems like there was a half second difference between spinning and hooking on street tires, when I had them on my car. I run slicks now.
Something bothers me about your car only running 93 mph before, even my 100k miler went 95 first time out, with 2.73 gears. My guess for your car then is 13.50s at 102. More infomation on weather and circumstances would make it easier, but let's see what happens.
No math here, I'm guessing 12.80 on the 100 shot with erratic wheelspin and you trying to drive it.
Hey, I still use the paper filter.
Sounds like you've been busy for two years and have a cool car as a result, good work and good luck. Let us know.
taner 10-01-2004, 10:16 AM well my wifes 94z, hooker catback,k&n fipk, and 3.73 gear and nittos went 13.4 @ 101 mph, you have longtubes, good removal of weight, etc... and a stall! maybe i was a bit optimistic, but you should crack 12's, pending good track prep and good air.
my experience is seeing a good .8 - 1.0 sec gain on a hundred shot! either way i look forward to hearing back on your results. keep in mid your sixty foot is everything :) if your car runs slower than i guess, then adjust my n2o guesses accordingly :)
andy katzelis 10-01-2004, 10:55 AM I'm not familiar with all the goodies he mentioned, want to guess race weight assuming he's 175 lbs. The k-member's worth 30 lbs?
Longtubes add about 20-25hp? What's the true dual exhaust configuration?
The stall's hard to figure into the equation, doesn't mean much when spinning.
Addmittedly, I'm conservative, but again the 93mph and high 14 second history bother me.
She-oot, I hope you're closer than I am to being right.
Wife's car sounds really stout and well matched, the math shows 13.39 ets.
CANTONRACER 10-01-2004, 11:45 AM 12.3's@116 with a 150 shot.
jeremyferguson 10-01-2004, 11:54 AM I don't remember what my 60 foot time was when I went to the track before, but I do remember that the car had over 30k on it and it still had the factory goodyear GSC's on it. I originally wasn't going to run that day because I was scared even driving the car that far to Milan with the tires the way they were...there was white cords showing...anyways my friend talked me into it, and nobody that worked for the track looked at the tires....(i know it was a bad idea to run).
anyways, it doesn't look like its going to be this weekend because I'm still waiting for the fuel pump to come in, and I can't put the rear-end back in 'til it gets here....maybe I can make it to next wednesday's test and tune at milan.
P.S. I know this has been discussed a lot but if I switched to some stickier tires, do you think the trans and rear end would last as long as I don't spray right out of the hole.

Believe me, that high 14 second run bothers me too!! And for the record I hope taners right too :p
andy katzelis 10-04-2004, 10:20 AM I think my car ran better with the bald 245s rather then the new 235s, but they didn't have any cords showing, at least that day.
Well he undoubtably has far more experience drag racing these cars than I do, which should be considered; he could probably run 12s on a bicycle.
I spray 150 off the line. My stock trans lasted to the 12.20 pass with 116,000 miles.

I think I just saw on BMR's website that taner's running those 9's on the stock t56  I wish us auto guys had a tranny that could hold up to that...
andy katzelis 10-04-2004, 02:31 PM There are alot of builders that guarantee the strength the problem is the cost. That's why I went th350.

Tanners t-56 has been completely gone thru. Cyrogenically treated parts and every high strength option available. Not stock.

Ya, I was gonna say.....it's not like that thing is getting baby'd going down the track....
taner 10-05-2004, 07:48 AM the stock trans did propel me to 10.14 @ 135, that was complete stock internals. still mostly stock internals, except for viper 3/4 fork, output shaft, carbon fiber synchros, like i said it is still pretty much bone stock ;)
