Darth Xed 09-30-2004, 08:47 AM Did anyone else see it? It was pretty interesting to watch.
I taped it, and wanna give it the once over to see if I can find anything interesting in the background of the design center... ;)
For those of you who didnt see it, it re-airs on Discovery Channel Sunday Oct 3rd at 1pm EST.

SNEAKY NEIL 09-30-2004, 08:55 AM Yeah, I saw it and I thought it was pretty good. The most interesting part to me was some of the testing that was being done on the car, especially when the driver was going about 180 on the Autobohn. Being a designer, I would have like to have seen the concept generation of the styling of the car but I guess there is only so much that can be shown in an hour.
Also, I liked how the spy photographer chsed down the Mustang and just got out of his car in traffic and started taking pictures.

Ya, I found it very interesting... I also wish they would have spent some time on the deisng phase... where the actual shape of the car was drawn up... would have been cool to see somethings that were rejected and considered, but didnt make the cut.
Dante93GTZ 09-30-2004, 09:33 AM I caught the tail end of the show. Pretty interesting tho.
jwade95Z 09-30-2004, 10:43 AM I watched it as well and really enjoyed it. I can't imagine going 180 on the Autobahn, or even 150 on the test track in Germany. Fastest I ever got up to in my old C4 was 145 on a long straightaway.
Did anyone else seem put off by the Corvette "enthusiast" comments at the unveiling? The people they interviewed sure didn't seem impressed. For one, you would think the producers would aire the best comments, not the lackluster ones. Next, I don't understand the fascination with heritage styling cues over performance in a world class competitor like the Corvette. This car will flat out do everything, very very well ... daily driver, weekend track days, weekend vacations ... you name it. The comments "I'll learn to like it" and "It'll grow on me" just annoyed me.
OutsiderIROC-Z 09-30-2004, 10:53 AM I caught the end of it as well. I'd like to watch it complete.
drewstealth 09-30-2004, 12:57 PM Yeah i saw that show. It was pretty interesting.
stars1010 09-30-2004, 01:21 PM Yeah i saw that show. It was pretty interesting.
ditto
Big Als Z 09-30-2004, 01:40 PM I missed it! But...Rebuilding an Icon? Was I asleep, or was the Corvette in the past few years still one of the best bang for your buck sports cars? What needed to be "rebuilt"?

Eh, don't read much into it... just poetic license for a more dramatic title... techincally, moving to a new generation is "rebuilding" the car... ;)
rlax31 09-30-2004, 03:35 PM That was awesome. I was mad i missed it at 8, but thankfully it came on later that night. between that show and the show where they were building the new mustang grand am car, it's been a great couple days on the dicovery channel :) ...and mythbusters too...
i thought it was a good special, the spy shot hunter was a nice touch, as well as the guy flying on the autobahn. If they ever make a special on the future "performance coupe" from chevy, that might be something i'd want in my DVD collection :)
0toinsanein5.4sec 09-30-2004, 05:39 PM I watched it at 11 last night, found out about it at 10:58 so i was like turn on to discovery :D Anyways it was very entertaining. Made me want to become a testdriver :p
Fbodfather 09-30-2004, 07:10 PM The term "rebuilding" I believe is used to convey the fact that you take one great car......and take it to the next generation.
Lotsa stuff left on the cutting room floor, but I was pleased to see that they showed how the show vehicles were built.....and the myriad of issues when you design a new car and then try to actually build it...thousands upon thousands of hours working on the smallest details.
As to the comments at the end...trust me.....I'd estimate that 90+% of the people there were very favorably impressed. You'll never get 100% of the public to agree on anything.
Doug Harden 09-30-2004, 07:43 PM In reality, you gotta' expect that having just seen it, it was alot to absorb.....and then someone puts a camera on you.....oh well, I think it was a major home-run myself :D

I didn't get a chance to re-watch it yet (taped it, like I said) , but did they ever tell us what the solution was to the hatch not closing easily with the doors closed? I am assuming the air pressure in the cabin was the problem, and therefore, when the doors were open, it closed nicely...
But, what was the fix? It worked nice for Mr. Hill after they fixed it.
Also... They should REALLY consider putting together a REALLY LONG version and plug in a lot of that stuff that was cut for editting... they could simply sell it on VHS and DVD at Discovery.com and ChevyMall.com !! :D A lot of us would love to watch everything!!!!!!!
AdioSS 10-01-2004, 10:43 AM I think I read in one of the many magazine tests that the windows automatically roll down a little bit when you open and close the door, so maybe they do that when the hatch is open too? Since that feature is already in place for the doors, it should take just a little programing and a few more wires to include it with the hatch.
They could've also used one of those trunkpull down things that have been in millions of Cadillacs and Buicks over the years (since at least the erly 90s), but I don't know how much weight that would've added.
I think it would be cool if they did a power open and close for the hatch like some minivans and SUVs have, but that definitely would've added to much weight.

I taped it
I don't have cable since i don't watch much tv. Any chance you could transfer or get this hosted online? Even a couple of good clips?

Third and 4th gens did too. I wish Chevy put in my Maxx to close the hatch.
Doug Harden 10-01-2004, 12:34 PM 4th gens did not have the pull down...heck, we didn't even get a cargo area light....I think too many fingers were crushed (no stop like on a garage door!) to bring it back.

Unfortuantely, I don't have the equipment to do that.
If you really want to see it, they said after the shoiw that you can purchase it from Discovery on DVD... probably can get it on the website or calling somehow.
0toinsanein5.4sec 10-01-2004, 01:24 PM 21.95 from the discovery site (http://shopping.discovery.com/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catal=ogId=10000&storeId=10000&langId=-1&productId=56588)
You may want to check amazon and see if they have it for cheaper.
On Oct 3rd at 12 there is Rebuilding an American Racecar legend which i believe is about the new Ford GT. Then at one is Corvette: Rebuilding an American Legend.
RP do you know if there will be another "All Corvettes are Red" book for the C6. Any authors doing that type of thing again?:)

Since there was no battle to keep the C6 alive like there was for the C5, probably not a book.......BUT there is a certian 'Martian' that is writing a book on the F5......be a few years before it gets printed though ;)

Excellent.
I wouldn't want it from any other perspective than that.... :thumb: :)
