Nice.. I hope GM does the same for the Camaro, or whatever car would take its place and demolish the Mustang..... ;)

Does anyone else think the "new" mustang looks goofy without a spoiler?

It looks good, except one thing I somewhat cannot get to like is the rear quarter windows, with B and C pillars...

I like the no spoiler look better for some reason. Cleans up the rear.

Speaking of goofy, why do internal names always sound goofy? "Boy Racer"??

I thought "Terminator" was pretty good, but yeah, "Boy Racer" is kind of lame.

Terminator was cool. Remember seeing pics of the coiled Cobra with red eyes. Kind of neat.

I don't know if anyone else caught this, but did anyone notice the resemblence between this and the 65 Shelby GT350? (other than retro inspired styling;)). The white paint, placement of decals and stripes? Compare the pics posted above with this one of the 65 shelby below. No coincidence. How does this fit with the rumors of a possible future shelby mustang?

There's no doubt in my mind that we'll see a Shelby Mustang, the question is when...

Wow, just saw this car on Discovery channel "Extreme Mustang". Freaking awesome!!!

It says on the discovery chanel that the mustang is being built for the show-room stock grand am. Except that was a DOHC engine... doesn't that make it unavalible for show-room stock?

Just watched it on Discovery. Very cool.

The thing I kept thinking though....is that the Camaro's natural home, should be on the track, racing that car.

That would be sweet. I like how it went faster than their previous champion car and it was only the first day at the track to test and tune it. Very nice.

BTW, that's the 5.0L "Cammer" motor that Ford Racing sells in their catalogue. Also, the 03/04 Cobra and 03/04 Mach 1's were all DOHC. The "Cammer" motor is a variation of these. On the Discovery program they showed them running the engine at 7250 RPM!!! Sweet for an out of the box motor.

Here's what bugs me about the new Mustang...

In race trim, wether we're talking this:

http://i.tnpv.us/2004/WKA200409/WKA2004092817938_pv.jpg

or this:

http://www.mustangheaven.com/2005GT-R/images/GT-R_15m.jpg

it always looks 10000000x better than the production version. The V6 model looks as boring as the Focus and the GT model just looks like its lacking... The wheel/tire combos, the rear wings... basically, its so boring looking when stock, its just irritating. They keep showing these race cars that look IMHO "amazing", and then the street version looks very granny......

Argh, biff, bam...

Here's more of the GT-R concept:

Considering that the Mustang is going to sell near 200,000 units in a year, if they all looked like the GT-R or the "Boy Racer" cars, then they would probably only sell 40,000 of them and only to enthusiasts. There wouldn't be a Mustang for long if they did that (i.e. Camaro). The great thing about the Mustang is that there is a huge aftermarket for you to customize your Mustang to make it look, sound and move the way you want it to.

Either I'm a true enthousiast or there's something wrong with American taste... maybe both. That stock Mustang is boooorrring. Nice concept, but the overall design is too boring in stock form... Aftermarket is great, but it'd be nice to see the factory put out some affordable excitement from time to time.

I see your point, but think Dante has a point as well. The regular GT does look like it is lacking a bit. I almost miss the fake scoops on the sn95 . Least it added flavor. The clean look on the 05 is good, but a bit too plain jane if you know what i mean. As plain as it is, i still love it, but if i had a choice, i'd remove the fogs in grille, go wingless, give it a minor drop, add a small chin spoiler, and go with a better looking 17x9 and 18.10.5 wheel combo with some fat tread (some 305's or 315's out back, not wimpy stock 235/55 tires). Those changes alone would drastically improve the looks of the 05 in my opinion. Some of them are a bit too drastic for Ford, but tires with decent width (275's), fog-light delete option, concept-car style hood (functional or non-funtional..don't care), and an optional small chin spoiler would have been nice from the factory. Anyways, there's always the aftermarket i guess.

I hope the next Cobra, Shelby, whatever they call it, looks a lot more like the concept. That was a sweeeeeet looking car. On a different note, it looks like those rear tires are as big as they can get as they are already sticking out from the fenders some. I had read that there was not a lot of room for big meats back there, so I wonder what size tire that is and if they had to do much clearancing?

I think that with some mods and some big sticky meats, if they fit, the new GT when it arrives in Jan after its heads are fixed could definitely rip off some high 12's. But we will see. I'm with everyone else, I dont like the way the production looks, but the improvements are nice and I have seen what it can potentially look like. This gives me hope that the future SVT Mustang will look good. Then again, the Rousch and Steeda look TERRIBLE!!!!! Like a ricer.

Those seeking more factory pizzazz will have to wait a little while (2006 YM) according to Ford execs.

Yes, it also doesn't look right with rims smaller than 18"

I wonder if the Eleanor car from Gone in 60 Seconds will have any more influence on the '05 style.

The only problem with the Cervinis pic is the side exit exhaust. It's not going to happen unless they figure out a way to make really small mufflers or move the gas tanks.

Ok, that it. If Cervini makes that kit, I'm just gonna become a Ford guy. End of story...

I think the rules allow some fidgetting.. For example, I believe the LS1 cars were allowed the hot cam..

Honestly, I'm more excited about Ford giving factory support for the series.. Hopefully then you would have factory engineered race parts available for roadracing ethusiasts..

I agree. Where Ford takes Mustang...GM will be compelled to take Camaro. And Dodge to take Challenger (?).

SOMEBODY who posts here a good bit already "leaked" what you will see in 9 more months... more or less. :p He (or maybe she) leaked it almost 2 months ago with confidence, but claimed it would happen about a year ago.

I am expecting to place my order on my birthday... Sept 10th.
My only decision is to go GT350 for road course work or GT500 for all-out badazzness.
Tops for me would be to get Shelby's signature on my new car before he's gone. Legendary...
