Hey guys, just got a lovely little letter from icbc. Apparantly I owe them money for Driver penalty points. It used to be only 1 point for a speeding ticket but now it is 3. Problem with that, is the limit before they start to charge you is still only 3 points/year. Also, their year is 5 months before your birthday, not jan-dec. Long story short, now if you get more than one violation you will have to pay more cash. I have 6 points (2 speeding tickets) and its $300.
Just figured some of you may not have known its changed. Keep you from being suprised like me  I dont mind paying tickets, but HATE paying cash grabs from icbc

Ah , it has been 3 points for "regular" speeding as far as I can remember.
Like 32 years ago when I got my first ticket.

it has been 3 points for a long time. and you dont pay for points unless you have more then 4 or more. so one ticket (unless it is excessive) and you dont pay points.

Yeah it has been 3 points for as long as I can remember. You are allowed 3 pts. per year without having to pay for it, but as soon as you get 4 or more pts you have to pay for them all.

Look at the bright side, at least you don't have 50+ points... yet.

Holy Crap!

There is column for "50 or more"!

There is only one reason why they have that - people actually obtain that many!

Well, something has changed as I have also had more than 3 points per year and not been billed. I had thought it was 1point per normal speeding ticket. Oh well. My uncle has 32 points but that was before you lost your license at 9 points.

i gone without paying for points before. I had 18 in a year and only payed for 6 somehow.never got charged for driving without license, excessive noise, and an exessive just my 2 normal tickets. :D oh well. points (and tickets, but mostly points) are a huge my grab. i hate icbc and the cops.

mostly icbc, but cops could be doing better things then pulling people over for doing a burnout or having no front plate. or tinted windows. meanwhile he has me pulled over and across the street someone is peddling drugs and a hooker is sleeping on the kids jungle gym.

another thing i hate is ghost cars. that proves to me that it is all a money grab. they dont care if you speed they just want to catch you. cops should have the lights on all the time or trying to let everyone see they are around. just seeing a cop makes me slow down.

same with the old photo radar. it takes a pick while you speed by, or you slow down just for that one spot and then 2 streets away you t bone some mom and her kids cause the cops felt more like taking a pick of you speeding a mailing it to instead of actually putting another cruiser on the road.

cops are usless to

Must be nice to just get a warning for excessive. Did you cry? ;) Ive always wondered if that would work. I got a cop to reduce an excessive (200kph in a 90kph) to just a normal ticket once but Im pretty sure that was because I pulled over quickly and off the freeway (safer).
A written warning will stay on your record. However, it doesnt mean anything other than a note for the next time you get pulled over. It dissapears after a bit but not sure on how long. Also I am pretty sure officers dont do many written warnings. Probably requires paperwork which is just as easy to ticket you. Or he didnt get you on radar, just saw you going too fast and pulled you over hoping for something better to ticket you on.

You sure on that? Excessive is 3 points just like a regular ticket.

Just buy a Valentine and say goodbye to speeding tickets (as well as having peace of mind and an enjoyable driving experience)

Excessive is 3 points added to a normal 3 point ticket. Also starts at $350 I think.

I got an excessive and it was 3 points only. Of course this was back when excessive netted you a $173 fine. That was pre-Valentine.

I am considering a radar detector as I still drive too fast in my old truck. I no longer have a "ticket me yellow" camaro which is what I got both tickets with so it is less of a concern now. This old truck of mine I can speed past a cop, he will look up to see whats going by, then look away when he sees its just an old truck :D .
