9T4Z28 09-27-2004, 09:27 PM Im cruising dropping off my gf and i look over while at a light, and thers this 87-90 oldsmobile or buick in the adjacent lane, real beat up looking. The guy driving it looks over and gives me "the look" it turns green and he guns it, lol i let him get a good 4 car lengths and then i went about 35-50 percent throttle still spun with the 4.11's and ate his lead and then i couldnt stop laughing so i put on the hazards to mess with him.. lol stupid hooptie drivers. He was real serious about it too, to boot! lol then i pulled up and there was a camaro same color as mine but a vert' so i cruised next to the little brother (v6) gave the guy a thumbs up turned off and it kicked in , lol i couldnt stop laughing, fun stuff.
BlakeW5 09-27-2004, 11:37 PM I have the same problem. Nothing I would consider a "real car" ever tries to race me, it's always old pieces of junk or V6 camaros and stangs. I even intentionally "pick fights" to try and get cars to race me and none bite. I like to tell myself they're intimidated :D . To sum up the past few races I've had: 95 V6 camaro (guy I knew, it was ugly), 80ish buick (didn't even know he was trying to race till I heard his engine trying to rev; even uglier), and an 1980 something Camry that was beat to hell (kid looked to be about 12; ugliest by far). Around where I'm from the only legit races I can get involve diesel trucks and jacked up 4 by 4's. Note: I say legit because they actually have a "real" engine.
BirchMan98z 09-28-2004, 12:24 PM I have the opposite problem... Everyone and their mother comes looking for me, I guess they've all heard the stories and want a shot at the title.

Sounds like my 83 Firebird used to be.
rpm4lalo 09-29-2004, 06:26 PM It usually happens like this:
My local car club meets at a muffler shop's parking lot. Someone will pull in and ask if anyone wants to race. I usually will volunteer if it looks like it will be a competative race. I head to my car and turn it on and then whoever challenged me will turn pale when they hear the cam lope and see me purge the nitrous system.
97WS6SCharged 09-30-2004, 11:35 PM I know the feeling. The last race I got into was with an older TPI Vette. It was very ugly.
Morginie 10-01-2004, 02:03 AM Yah yesterday my my dad was driving me out in the z28 camaro. This ricer boy in a honda civic pulls up beside us. He has this loud muffler, chrome, the booming rap music, and of course the backwards baseball hat (like cmon you gotta have the cap!). My dad was busy talking on his cell phone and didn't notice ricer boy reving his car. So the light turns green and ricer boy guns it and my dad is just driving like he normally does and we still wiped him lol! :D Yah but its sad that no one cool is ever beside you at the light.
BlakeW5 10-04-2004, 11:09 AM FINALLY, a change of pace. Finally got a real race. Was coming home doing about 75 and pass a camaro. It was black and couldn't tell if it was a Z or not, but it turns out he was just had black badges (couldn't see his tips when I passed). So I look in my rearview mirror still trying to figure out if it was a Z or not and he wasn't there. Thats about the time I see him fly by. I hammer it about the time he puts a car and half on me. I walked by him pretty easy actually and by 140 had 3-4 cars on him, then I had to come close to locking up the brake to stop for the light. Guy was really cool about it though. We gave each other the thumbs up and a wave then headed our separate ways. It was a 96 or down LT1 6-speed with at least exhaust, so I felt pretty good about the results. Maybe things are taking a turn for the better.
Terran2k 10-04-2004, 09:43 PM same thing happened to me, same type of car, 87-90 oldsmobile tried racing me on the West Side highway, I was putting bus lengths on him, hit the brakes and stop at the red light ahead, he blows thru the light like he's a ricer doing a flyby after you hit your brakes. lucky he didnt t-bone any1.
9T4Z28 10-04-2004, 11:20 PM lol maybe it was the same guy! lol where do you live in manhattan?
Terran2k 10-05-2004, 01:10 AM nah Im in the bx, I was thinking the same thing, prob the same guy lol.

Mighty 10-05-2004, 09:31 PM I bet I have you all beat. A couple of days ago a mail truck revved at me. That's right. A mail truck. Then he asked me if I "got a hemi" in that thing.

You have a great set of mods on that car !!!
What times you running ?
Just curious because you might be up there with some of the fastest "bolt-on" LS-1s.
Heavy

Nah, I'm sure I'm nowhere near the fastest bolt-on cars since I run street tires. Stock rear end won't handle slicks. High 11's anywhere from 117-120.x is all I can hit traction limited. From a roll I'm almost untouchable though. Takes a mighty spray or a blower/turbo to pull me.
now NEXT spring/summer I will be kicking ass and taking names. Building my bored 427 ls-1 this winter. All forged internals, and on top I will most likely be procharging it. A ford 9" or a 12bolt will be going out back, depending on whether or not my buddy finds a use for the 9" he's got lying around that he's hesitant to sell. We'll see how things play out, now I have my eye on the ZL-402 from SLP. Depends on budget. I have to keep suspension in mind here too, but I will be starting from scratch, so, I'll probably be parting out my stuff at a good price.
