So yesterday I was taking my friend for a ride, got to a T in the road and decided to do a burnout. Usually I slip the clutch at first to preload it but not this time. I just dropped it. At first I thought it was the driveshaft but I couldnt be that lucky. For some reason I could still drive in reverse long enough to get it close to my buddys house. That was about a 1/4 mile. So why would it still go in reverse? I'm thinking maybe I sheared the splines on the axles off. How long do you think it will take to swap a complete rear housing? I have a rear from a 94. Should just bolt right in. Shocks, panhard bar, driveshaft, brake lines, LCA's, bar going to the tranny. I'm gonna say about 3 hours. I have all the right tools. I wish I had the money for a 12 bolt. :(

Well, if everything goes well expect about 3 hours.... But everything will not go well. There will be pain in the ass rusted bolts. I broke the rear hardline for the brakes right before it connects to the rubber hose to the rear. ANNNDD fun of all funs one of my LCA bolts rusted itself to the innersleeve of the LCA bushing and needed about 1.5 hours of constant hammering in and out until it finally broke loose. But the bright side is one the old one is out putting the new one in is cake...

Yeh so far I got the broke one out, the good one out of the doner (sp?) car, and the broke one in the doner car for towing purposes. I just have to put the good rear in. It sucks going to work from 8-12, and school from 1-9 everyday so I have no time. I've worked on it after school monday and tonite until about 12 each night. As for the old rear it sheared the big pin in half and that took all the spiders and side gears out along with the springs and pinion gear. Everythings shot except the axles and housing. The brakes were the only thing holding the axles out far enough that the c-clips didnt pop out. That could have been ugly. Just glad I had a donor car with all new springs, shocks, bearings, seals, carrier, and gears. Better it happen now because I was planning to sell the rear I used.
