all depends on what you want to do

Waste of money. Get a completely different intake system or leave it alone. Now, if you got the runners free or next to free, I might install them for the hell of it.

Think: incremetal improvement, not "oh wow!" improvement. Mine also didn't do much until I port-matched the upper plenum to the odd "figure 8" shaped opening at the tops of the runners. They're partially siamesed at the top on some of them. Match the opening on the side of the upper plenum to match and they do better than just bolting them on. Still, not like you're gonna drop half a second with them regardless.

just wondered if they were any significant imporovement over the standard runners.

Not much unless you do porting work. If it is cheap or free, sure I would. However, to maximize the system, you should get a totally different intake.

come on guys, you don't need to tell me to get a different intake. i spent x amount on the last one due to recommendations and it was a waste of money....just the simple basics here. i'm building the most dirtcheap motor possible just to see what type of power it makes so if it's for a reasonable price they are better then the tpi runners?

I'll keep it short.

Yes they are better. Properly port matching them noticable helped power past 4000rpm on a stock head/cam 350. A Higher 1-2 shift point(5500 instead of 5000) with 3.73 gears netted a .8 second drop in ET.

I would pay no more than $200 for them.

found a guy with two sets for 150 and one sets polished...just curious was all. thanks for the headsup denny. i figured they have to be better then plain ported stock runners with my heads and cam. the tpi is going to choke the motor enough as it is...

Just for your informstion, SLP has been making those runners since the introduction of the TPI as a performance Mod. So after twenty years they are still around, cant't say that for a lot of parts. That design is older then some of the people bad mouthing them. Note: I have them on my 350.

Actually the original design on the SLPs had one pair of runners on each side of the engine "siamesed" the entire length of the runner. I personally stay away from the "unbalanced" orginal SLP runners,,, unless you feel your combination warrents complete removal of the divider for all the runners. If that's the case, I'd advise against using the TPI intake,, since you would be hurting about the only thing the TPI has going for it - the midrange torque boost from the long runners.

SLP later revised the runners so that the divider was only notched (siamesed) about 1.5" at the top of the runner. The later design is much more favorable in my opinion for the majority of TPI combinations. The later design allows you to "semi-siamese" the runners by taking out a deterimed length from the divider of all the runners,, whatever your combination likes (mine liked the divider removed to about the 1/2 way point). The thing about the SLP runners are the castings are not the best in the world and for them to work their best,,, you need to at least clean them up a bit, port / open up the plenum to the runner opening,,, and make sure the intake manifold's runner opening is larger than the runner's exit diameter.

Does anyone have experience with the Edelbrock runners?

i'm pulling the whole horse power robbing tpi intake off my 327 and installing an lt1 intake. you can get them used pretty cheap, and there's plenty of info on the swap on the web. from the dyno charts i've seen, the power is pretty dam close to the other high dollar intakes.

i want a torque monster and the tpi intake was cheap enough for me...doesn't matter if the car has 250 horse so long as the torque is over 400 i'll be happy.
