vodoo-chile 09-16-2004, 02:57 PM Just want to know the input on putting 245/45/17's on a 17x9 rim. I currently have 275/40/17's but am having a bad tracking problem. I don't auto X or road race so I don't mind the slimmer wheel, especially if it helps cure my problem. I want to know if it will look "funny" on the wider rim? Any pics would be great. Thanks,

vodoo-chile 09-16-2004, 03:53 PM Hey, happy late B-day!!! The car is pulling pretty bad in both directions when driving over ruts and such. Scares the he!! out of me sometimes. I've had the front end checked a couple of times but they say nothing wrong. I just did new springs, shocs and front swaybar. I just don't know what to look for if there is something wrong.

Nothing is wrong big tires just follow the road :D atleast its what ive noticed the larger my tires get, 245, 255, 275, now 295 :o

vodoo-chile 09-17-2004, 12:04 AM I know. Actually, the car is running pretty good. I just want to get rid of the pulling. On my daily commute, about 50 miles a day, it is driving me nuts. I need new tire up front anyway so I figure I'll try the thinner tires to see if it fixes the problem.

Steppa 09-29-2004, 10:15 AM Actually, I have the same 'tracking' problem with my Camaro now...
I have a 94 Z28 and I just did SLP's LvL1 suspension kit and SLP's anti-swaybars (welded). Along with that, I changed the tires to Sumitomo's 255/60/16 on the stock salad shooters.
I thought my tracking problem was the fact that I went with +1 on the tire size of 255/60's (should be 245/50's) and I plan on getting 17" rims and new BFG's or NITTO's (at 275/40/17x9.5). But now, seeing this, I'm wondering if there's something else that might be wrong with the suspension.
It's kind of hard to describe the problem but basically, if I'm driving perfectly straight, the car will 'shift' or 'wiggle' with the groves in the road and it does it all of a sudden. The car seems to only shift about 3 to 4 inches but it scares you because it happens fast and makes the car feel really unreliable and unstable.
Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this or what the deal is? I live in Mass and I don't know anyone around here that knows how to tune suspension correctly... :(

Anyway, so, this is normal for everyone..? Everyone's car feels unstable and pulls weirdly with the ruts in the road? I know the car didn't do it before the new tires and suspension...
Maybe it's just the stance of the Camaro's?

nothingeined 09-30-2004, 02:35 PM That is the problem with some tires. I remember I was gonna buy some F1's with my 10 spokes that was really get out of hand when it tracked. I switched to Kumho Ectsa's and they do a lot better job in the tracking department. They still do, but not as bad as the F1's. They are both 275/40 17. I kind of want to get 245's. My other camaro had 245's but they were on 16 inch rims. Better ride and it was not scary going down the highway. I travel a lot and it sucks going about 55-60 in a 70 area because of the roadway. When it clears up though I open it up, but they are about to start construction again and they tear up the highway groveing out the previous markers.

Tires help a bit. I run my Kumho's at 32 psi and make sure they are torqued to specs. When they first put them on, they over torqued them and when I would stop or anything it would pull hard to the right or left. Loosed them a bit and lowered the pressure down and everything is okay till I hit some really ruff spots. Otherwise it drives fine. Good luck!!

hahah thats the funiest crap i ever heard. lug tourque has nothing to do with how the car handels unless they are falling off loose. so forget that overtorque crap. you changed your air pressure that is what made the diffrence.
you can play with air pressure to see how it rides best go between the tire mfg side wall requirements and the door tag on the car. The door tag is always lower than the mfg since they want the best ride and do not care about tire wear. the standard pressures are usually 32- 35 but you can go as low as 28 with some tires, but you will loose some tread wear.

They over torqued them was there explanation to me. It helped a bit when they loosen them :confused: But it still tracked but didn't pull or anything left or right like it did when they first put them on. So that is when they said okay lower the pressure. That did the trick. Oh well, I'm probably wrong. Could of been a one off thing.
Spinner 10-02-2004, 09:50 PM Ive got 245/45/17s on the front, and 275/40/17 on the back. Looks fine to me, but it may be the brand of tire. I run sumitomo htr+s, they're cheap and great tires.
