What would be a safe horsepower boost to run on a pretty much stock Lt1? I was thinking about 125 hp dry shot. What about wet? The only mods I have are Slp intake and Crapmaster Exhaust. Thanks for any help.

WS6_Keith 09-16-2004, 05:48 PM Depends on the tune. My stock LT1 (bolt-ons but valve covers never off) got a healthy dose. Made 180+ more at the wheels on the juice. Sunsceamer 09-16-2004, 06:49 PM Depends on the tune. My stock LT1 (bolt-ons but valve covers never off) got a healthy dose. Made 180+ more at the wheels on the juice. my valve covers have never been off either! been spraying for 3 years filling the bottle sometimes more than once a week for 3 years. chevyguy3 09-16-2004, 06:59 PM i was running a stock shortblock LT1 with 11.2:1 compression, and already making 425+ rwhp on motor. sprayed 200hp on top of that very often both at the track and on the street and had no problems. never used anything more than 92-93 octane pump gas DrewHMS97SS 09-16-2004, 07:40 PM on motor is 425 then 17psi of boost? chevyguy3 09-16-2004, 08:27 PM i wasnt talking about my current engine. was talking about the stock shortblock heads/cam combo i had a few years ago since the post was asking about what you can get away with spraying on a stock LT1. that was about 4 engines and 3 cars ago SantaCruz163 09-16-2004, 11:53 PM I was thinking about a 125hp wet shot after a head/intake/cam/LT header install as well as a good PCM tune. Would I be able to safely get by on a 125 shot on stock interiors? Or would a 100 shot be better Derrick Redd 09-17-2004, 04:31 AM I'd say with a stock LT1 and stock fuel pump a 100 wet shot is fairly safe. Upgrade the fuel pump and 150 should be fine. RedThunder1994 09-17-2004, 07:44 AM Im getting ready to drop a 383 stoker, fully forged internals, turbo, headers, pretty much full bolt ons in my car and the most ill be spraying is 100, i feel the more you use, the more u are wanting to blow your car up. why risk 125 on a stock motor, some people might beable to get away with it but doesnt mean your motor doesnt have a weak spot that could just be enough for that 125 to say bye bye. plus dotn u want to make your car all engine and not rely on the pussy juice so much LT1WanaBe 09-21-2004, 12:52 PM plus dotn u want to make your car all engine and not rely on the pussy juice so much  Isn't that what this particular forum is about? DrewHMS97SS 09-21-2004, 05:38 PM  Isn't that what this particular forum is about? the forum is about n2o, but what i think he was trying to say is what good is a car with 100hp and a 200 shot? if your car is weak with out n2o, how cool is it with it? ChevyTuffD.A. 10-27-2004, 09:27 PM Disregard Redthunder1994, he's never used nitrous, he dont know :) Also, ask him how he is going to fund this "stroker" of his, Mark, you dont stand a chance against me homeboy. Bow to the master biotch!! LT1TONY 10-28-2004, 12:03 PM I also used to run ( a few engines ago) a 175 shot on stock bottom end, with a hot cam and ported heads on pump gas too. By the way Darren, how's it going haven't talked to you in a while? NoFear95 10-28-2004, 12:32 PM my valve covers have never been off either! been spraying for 3 years filling the bottle sometimes more than once a week for 3 years. Man those TNT kits are nice safe kits. Are you guys retarding the timing too? red91z 10-28-2004, 01:59 PM I've been running a 175 jetting in my stock bottom end motor for 2 years. This kit makes an extra 200hp in the midrange to the tires and no issues what so ever. Good gas and timing will make it last. speedracer69 10-29-2004, 06:32 PM i did a 150dry on my lt1 with stock fuel system and just race gas in it 5 bottles later it still runs! Bad AZz Z28 10-29-2004, 08:56 PM 100-125 all day long on stock internals, no problem in 3 years, but I have a walbro 255 inline pump. With a fuel pump I'd say up to 150 on a regular basis will be fine with some timing. Without the pump, which I'd hate to do at all, I wouldnt want to go past 100. andy katzelis 11-02-2004, 12:52 PM 200 shot here on the stock engine from air filter to crossover pipe. times in sig. mattybz28 11-04-2004, 05:29 PM Are you guys retarding the timing too? ... chevyguy3 11-04-2004, 05:44 PM i wasnt pulling any timing on that 200hp/heads/cam/stock shortblock combo. had a retard box on it, but with the rich jetting i had in it, it ended up not needing any less timing even on 92 octane with the 11.2:1 compression. to be honest i really dont remember how much timing i was running on that engine at WOT, but i would figure probably 34* since thats what a LT1 combo like that will typically run best at naturally aspirated from what i have seen if i would have had the A/F ratio closer to where it should have been im sure it would have ended up needing some timing retard (and gone a lot faster), i just never got around to tuning that combo in before moving on to bigger things. a walker 11-05-2004, 03:52 AM Im getting ready to drop a 383 stoker, fully forged internals, turbo, headers, pretty much full bolt ons in my car and the most ill be spraying is 100, i feel the more you use, the more u are wanting to blow your car up. why risk 125 on a stock motor, some people might beable to get away with it but doesnt mean your motor doesnt have a weak spot that could just be enough for that 125 to say bye bye. plus dotn u want to make your car all engine and not rely on the pussy juice so much You kinda contradict yourslef there bud. You're talking about nitrous being "pussy juice", when you plan on using it yourslef. On top of that, you're basically saying that all engine is superior. Well if that's true, then why the turbo? Back to the question. I have been spraying my car with a 175 wet shot for over 5 years now. Stock engine, and only minor bolt-ons. I didn't even have headers until a couple months ago. It was then that I got a custom tune as well. Before that, I was using a Hypercrap PPIII, and didn't pull any timing. I now have almost 185,000 daily driven miles on my car. Over an average summer, the engine gets anywhere from 12-25 bottle run through it. I've never had any problem at all. I am a firm believer that as long as nitrous is used and installed properly, it is extremely safe. It's when your car isn't tuned for it and the nitrous is abused that problems start happening. | ||
