symptoms are that i now hate this car! no codes thrown at first, they tell me new map sensor. buy new one same problem. then go back codes say maf sensor, buy same problem! when u go to start the car, u turn the key and its starts then shut right off. same thing happens over and over again. then once u do get it started u r alright for a few . then outta nowhere rpm;s drop adn the car shuts off. adn one time with the foot on the throttle at normal cruising speed it just died on me in the middle of traffic. actually it happened twice, cuz it happened goin about 60 on i-4 in traffic and that sucked! all teh connections look and feel fine! i cant figure this **** out1 if u can help please do!

i believe opti is original but i dont know. most people say the opti but this time i dont think it is! with the map sensor unplugged the car runs fine! any ideas on that, could it be the tps? thanks

If you feel like taking a short trip to Sebring, I can scan it and try a different computer. I don't think the ECM is the culprit, but ya never know.

definatley sounds like opti, or something spark related. the car wouldn't shut down if it was just the MAF. The otehr thing is how bad did you get jit with the rain from the hurricane(s) a couple of people I've talked to around here in Daytona said they had to get half they're fluids flushed and a few sensors replaced. If it's not throwen any codes it would more than likely be the opti.

it has been throwing maf codes, like 6 of them! but with the map unplugged it has been running prety good! but when i let off the gas sometimes, the rpm;s will drop then bounce back up, kinda erratic, hten idle normal. make any sense to you, wellit sure dont to me! this is gettin kinda old

I wonder if it could be the MSD, can you try takin it out of the loop and see if it runs? Its possible I can stop by this weekend.

bring it down to orange an 50 fri night around 1030 or 11 I'm supposed to meet up with a couple of people down there... It very well could be the MSD I didn't think of that. Good call

ha i am ahead of u guys! j/k but i already unplugged the msd box and used stock configurations( msd box was used so i first thought that was the culprit!) no difference at all! i will make it up there saturday and u can check it out! and mark u are more then welcome to stop by! but i did return teh new map and maf and put in the old ones and there is no change, so that was no tthe problem as initially expected. so i now think it has somthing to do with vaccum! but from what i can see, everything is fine!

Look at the "rubber elbow fitting" connecting the PCV valve to the metal tubing, it is located on the driver side near the back half of the intake. I have had mine split open and caused similar problems.

is the intake elbow on all the way around? check the bottom of it where it meets the throttle body.

ok the intake elbow is fine. and the pcv valve is fine! but i did just have some guy with a good scanner check out my car( look at computer threads) and onw my code is gone and the car seems to be running fine! we will see!

Ignition switch.. the part on the steering column... not the key part. I had the same exact problem with my old 95 LT1 Camaro... It's like a $30 part from the dealer for an AC Delco switch... Here's a tip hold the key forward a little bit when you let it go from start to on.. (Symptoms... , start, die, start, die.. It would fire right up, but immediately shut off) Worth a shot if you ask me...

That is what I was going to say, but the throwing of the codes and the MAP diconnect doesn't seem to tie in. The gauge cluster does run through the ignition switch and can cause some erratic readings as well as the shutting off and hard intermittant starting. Mine experienced the same problems but was not throwing codes.

besides the codes, could it shut off after 20 minutes of driving? and yesterday wheni was driving it i let off the gas pedal and it stuck there for for a few seconds, and then i had to tap it to get it to stop! does that have anything to do with the tps? or anything of this matter?

is the throttle getting stuck combined with a bad idle air controller?

hope ur not asking me that! cuz i dunno. maybe someone else knows! bubt thing is a pita to get to. i would have to take the front half of the motor off to get to that lil basta*d.

on top of the tb, what does that lil black thing with 6 tork screws do? i took it off last week and wheni looked at it today the gasket was blocking off whatever was supposed to be getting through there! it was kinda oily and on the outside of it, ther was a black flex tube that goes to the top of the passenger side valve cover. maybe that has somthing to do with it!
