How much timing retard with a wet 175 shot?

I've sprayed a 125 shot with only 3 degs of timing pulled out, NGK TR6 plugs and pump gas and run the time in my sig, but was thinking of going to a 175 shot and pull 5 degs of timing with 103 autolites, and 100 octane race gas. Also, I checked my timing with my scan tool and it read as high 45 degs, is that right, and if so is 5 degs of timing retard enough with a 175 shot. Thanks.

I would like to know this to. We have very similar setups.

Randy,
This is kind of off the subject but how do you like those Hoosiers compared to the ET Streets? I have heard the Hoosiers sway more on the BIG END, because of the softer side wall?

I have been beating this around for a week now between the 28" ET's or the Hoosiers. I am going 28" because when I ran at the ROCK two weekends ago on a 100 shot. My shift lite was just a flickering for a shift to 5th between the 800-1,000ft mark. So I lifted off the pedal enough to dis-engage the nitrous and patted the gas pedal the last 300 or so feet.

I figure if I put the 150 jets in there, it will make it even worse. So I skipped right over the 27" option Hoosier offers.

Keep in mind; I am running 4.30 gears in my 12 bolt;)

Thanks,
Jeff

What's up Jeff? I love the Hossiers, they hook like mad compared to the ET streets and I haven't noticed any sway. You get more sway with lower air pressure and since I'm running 15-16 psi I don't have a problem. The one thing about the Hossiers is that they don't last as long as the ET's, but I don't care as long as they hook and consistent high 1.5 60fts in a 3500+ lbs car with a NA 355 is hooking in my opinion.

When are you going back to the rock, I'd like to see you run? Steve is having a chevy show on the 9-10 of Nov I'll be there see if you can make it. Later

Thanks for the help Randy. I will look at my calendar and see if I can make it to Rockingham on that weekend.

I am looking around to see if I can afford a trailer to put my car on so I dont have to drive it so far away. I know Bob is selling his; but its a little to steep for my blood.

Hopefully, I will not have to do too much "massaging" to get the 28's to fit in the wheel well. I am using a Weld Wheel 15X10 with a 6.5" backspacing.

OK, back to the subject. Anybody?

From what I understand concerning peak cylinder pressure when using nitrous, you need to retard the timing 1.5 degrees per 50HP of nitrous. So, in your case you would need to retard the timing 5-6 degrees to run 175 HP of nitrous...
