Rusted Fuel Fittings At Filter

I need to replace the fuel filter. The fittings that screw into the filter seem to be rusted to the fuel line on both sides. My fear is that if I try to untighten the lines they will twist up or break apart from the fittings.

What should I do?

Can I repair the fuel line and how?

Can I cut the fuel line on both sides of the filter? If so what is the best way to repair this? Can I bend new fuel line and patch it to the old fuel line with rubber fuel hose and clamps or is the fuel pressure too great for it?

The fittings arent physically attached to the lines, dont worry about it. Get a flare nut wrench (line wrench) and put some ass into it. Hold the filter steady. It'll break loose.

Yeah, the fittings are kinda just floating around the fuel line. Try to make sure you don't break the fitting, they are plastic and brittle.

Spray on some penatrating oil, aka PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench. Let that sit for a little bit and go try taking it off then. It'll be a lot easier that way.

yeah, what tang & spinner said, penetrating oil & good wrenches.
Don't wanna insult you, but are you using 2 wrenches, 1 on the line nut, the other on the filter boss? Try putting them so they're aprox 25-45 deg seperated engaged on the nuts and squeeze them togther. You'd be amazed how much torque you can exert through that leverage method, and there's no risk of twisting the fittings or lines.

Rusted Fuel fittings are normal.. See them all the time and they always come right off?use a line wrench instead of a regular wrench.. I believe you will need a 11/16 for the filter and 5/8 for the fitting.. Just replaced the filters on a camaro, tahoe, and escalade.. ( all used about the same filter.. all had rusted fittings.. Take the cap off the gas tank to equal pressure, If worried jack front of car up ( gas flows back to tank) and take it apart..
