I'm thinking about doing a y-pipe. I welded up a flowmaster muffler three weeks ago and now I wish I would have just bought a cat back system. My buddy's dad has a muffler shop and I was thinking about buying a y-pipe and having him weld in the 3" pipe to the muffler. There seems to be different types of pipes out there. Is there a special pipe for coming off the cats and stock manifolds vs headers? where do you buy y-pipes from?

SLP and Borla both make stainless steel replacement y-pipes! If you were looking for performance you put the wrong muffler in, as the saying goes. Flows don't flow.

you won't really see much gain going to an offroad Ypipe. save your money for headers.

if you really want one, ii've got one off my 99 that i want to get rid of. it's a Bassani unit. it has a ****ty weld in one spot and has been on 2 cars...

will sell cheap!!

let me know

i have heard that the flowmaster sucks for flow but the sound is awesome and with a bigger y-pipe, your car will sound mean as hell :cool:

or as most people describe it...
"a sledge hammer slamming inside a garbage can"

not always a liked sound

How do other mufflers sound...I like the way the flowmaster sounds. Very aggressive!

the flowmaster sounds good on stock cars...but once you remove the cats the sound totally changes...and most don't like it...bit too "tinny" or some crap.

it's so subjective anyway

I know what you mean there. My buddy did his the same day I did mine. He's running headers and no cats. Sounds alot different but still not bad. Like you said subjective. I have people knock every brand and other people love every brand...I say do you like.
