Well i am thinking about ordering some of my stuff for my stereo in my car. The first thing i am going to buy is the box for the subs. What should i get? A box for 2 12's or 3 10's.

Basically my question is do i go with 2 12's or 3 10's......

I need opinions and suggestions because i want to order the box this week from subthump.

later,
fred

What subs are you thinking of using? that factors into the decision as well.

Really, a personal preference at that point, either will sound decent.

What type of music do you typically listen to?

i listen to rock, alternative, and some rap. So im thinking the 12's might be better for that.

Yeah, in your case, I'd go with the 12s :)

Why not three 8's?

http://www.jlaudio.com/subwoofers/8W7.html

One of my customers was debating two Type R 10's and I showed him this 8W7. Mostly because he was driving an S2000 and space was really limited. We put both in his car, and the 8W7 was almost as loud, but tighter and cleaner. And that was one 8 vs 2 10's.

i am wanting to go with infinity perfects because they are white like my car. I have always had good luck with infinity and the price is relatively cheap. i can get 2 perfect 12's for $305.90.

Kappa Perfects aren't perfectly white, more of a metallic silver. They look sorta white in bright pictures though.

I have two Kappa 100.3SE's sitting in my basement, brand new in the box. Along with a set of Kappa 60.5CS's. No idea what I'll be doing with those.

Infinity stuff is excellent gear. The only bad thing I can say is that they make unreliable stuff. Everything Infinity I've had in the past has blown, and fairly quickly. One co-worker had two Perfect 12's, and on one of the 12's, due to overexcursion, the pole piece deformed the cone in a ring shape.

Yea i am still trying to decide what to do. My friend used to have a perfect 12 and it got messed up i cant remember exactly what but the warranty replaced it minus shipping charges for him, so it wasnt too bad. I guess i am just trying to find a pair of 12's and a decent amp to power them for around 600-800 bucks. I dont like alpine. i do like JL, Infinity, and might consider audiobahn but something about them just makes me not really want to get them. I used to have 2 JL 12W3's in my old S10 and i loved them so i might consider JL again, but they are so damn expensive.

Any input on my comments so far would be helpful.

Thanks,
fred

You can have my Kappa 100.3SE's for 200$ plus shipping. They're brand new, and never used. I bought them direct from an Infinity distributor, and I'm going into JL again.

If you want brand new, W3's are amazing subs. Only sub I've had that had girls in the back seat asking me to turn down the bass because it hurt.

i will only buy brand new subs. I might go down to my old town where i bought my first JL subs and talk to them again and see if i can get a deal. The W6V2 looks like a good sub also.

If you think the W3's are too expensive, the W6's are twice the price. Yes, they are amazing subs, but if you're on a budget, a bad choice.

And the Kappa 100.3SE's are brand new :)

nah i never thought the W3's were too expensive. the last subs i priced out for JL were the 12W7 and that made me run away with my wallet tightly griped in my hands. i think i could get two 12W6V2's for for about 300-350 a piece. i also might consider the W3V2 which i could probably pick up for 200-250 a piece. so many choices are making me crazy. I need to hear the new W6V2's also as i have not yet. I have heard the W7 and that sub is freaking insane but so is the price tag. i will have to take a road trip on friday.

Well, for the same price as one W7, you could almost get two W6's. I'm pretty sure the W6's would suffice, to say the least.
