Hypertech Shift Settings

I have an automatic 97 z28. It came with a hypertech reprogrammer. I set everything to stock because I heard the unit really doesn't do much except for changing shift points and hardness for automatic transmissions. I would like to know what would be generally good locations to shift and what are good ways to find the best values.

Could you give me recommendations for getting the best speed and seperate settings for getting the best gas mileage?

Also, how does shift firmness affect the car? Should i change these values and what should i change them to?

Re: Hypertech Shift Settings

I can't speak for where the power band of an LT1 lies, and where the shift points are set (stock) for an LT1, but all I can say is try changing them by +1 mph at a time (probably no higher than +2 or +3 mph higher for any gear though). I've currently got both the 1-2 and the 2-3 shifts set at +1, which makes the shifts occur at about ~6000 RPM (instead of ~5800). Any higher than this and the shifts would actually lag a little, which defeated the purpose of raising them.

As far as firmness, I've got mine set at 100%, although I've heard conflicting arguments whether it's good, bad, or indifferent!

with the hypertech tune or any other mailorder tune they can only change your half throttle shift! The tune can do nothing for ur full throttle shift, so i actually see no point! when madwolf tuned mine he set it at the second shift firmness now i would like ot get rid of it! but to each there own

Unless the programmers are different for LT1's, that's not true for my car! By adjusting the shift points, it raises the WOT shift points.
