My a4 shifter is F-ed up, PLEASE help...

I don't even know the easiest way to explain this. But basically, when I turn my car off, the tranny is left in reverse because that is the farthest forward I can physically "upshift" the tranny with my shifter. DOes anyone, have any kind of idea what would cause this. We just did a tranny swap about two months ago, and this just started.

I makes me nervous, because when I start the car up it is IN gear and in reverse
Please advise

Get underneath the car, and look at the bracket where the shifter cable meets the tranny and is bolted up. Chances are those 2 bolts are either A) loose, or B) missing. The same thing happened to my friend's '96 T/A, and this problem was posted awhile back too.

Replace or retighten those two bolts (they share duty as 2 of the tranny pan bolts as well) and your shifter should work fine again.

.......otherwise, I'm lost!?
