What will Chevy's Zeta sedan be called?Z284ever 08-17-2004, 01:51 AM Really, not much more than speculation....but what the heck. 97Whitez28 08-17-2004, 01:59 AM <----Crosses fingers for Caprice! rlchv70 08-17-2004, 09:17 AM What about Chevelle? 91_z28_4me 08-17-2004, 09:22 AM What about Chevelle? Most likely will not happen but a possibility. The rumors surrounding Chevelle making a come back were started by a magazine and not at GM. GM doesn't have any plans for a new Chevelle and never did. Speculation is for either Monte Carlo or Impala. I know the names are tied to Oshwa, which is supposed to make Zeta's and I know that Guion has been dropping hints about a 4 door monte, I also know that Impala has been the number one seller for Chevy/GM for the last 2 years or so, but in it's FWD form. It has been made pretty clear that while Zeta will have volume FWD is where GM is planning on keeping most of its cars till the end of the decade. My vote is Monte Carlo. Z284ever 08-17-2004, 10:30 AM Whatever it's called, I sure hope it's got some bold styling. The spy pics of the '06 Impala look like a conservative rehash of the current car. That makes sense and it's the safe approach. So let's call THAT segment covered. I'd really like to see the large RWD Chevy make a "splash".....like the LX cars. As far as what it might be called......I'm not sure. Certainly, in my eyes, the perfect name would be Impala. But fat chance of that happening, as long as the W-car continues to sell well. Bel Air has a certain ring to it, though...ONLY...if you think of the high end Chevy's of the 50's. BTW, the Bel Air Concept as we knew it is DEAD, DEAD, DEAD. Wayne Cherry, really liked it...in fact, I think Wayne Cherry was the concept's only friend. Wayne Cherry is now gone. Bel Air (as we knew it ) has no more friends. Maybe it's time to revitalize the Bel Air name from what it was in the '50's. Upscale full sized Chevy pillar-less hardtops and convertibles. With "Fuel Injected" and "Dual Quad" Corvette motors. Z28x 08-17-2004, 10:36 AM What about Chevelle? I agree, I think Chevelle would be a good name, Chevy needs a sporty RWD Sedan. guionM 08-17-2004, 10:49 AM Impala is pretty much out of the question since it seems Chevy will continue selling it till at least the end of the decade. I also doubt Chevelle, which I suspect will become a coupe based on the FWD Malibu in the near future. Calling it Belair is an interesting thought. But the Belair concept still seems to have some life in it, though I'm not sure what it's role in the scheme of things is. Chevrolet Caprice is a good possibility since that's the name GM is selling the top Holden in the Middle East. Monte Carlo is also a good bet. Z284ever 08-17-2004, 10:57 AM Chevelle doesn't quite do it for me. It conjures up images of basic, affordable transportation. Not really the image we might want. Part of the magic of the 300C is it's name and heritage. Call it BS or whatever....but Chrysler reached back into history and grabbed the name of it's most prestigious full sizes cars. The "Letter Cars" of the '50's and early '60's. And for good measure....threw in the name of it's most storried motor too. Forget Chevelle..........the name doesn't have enough gas to compete here. rlchv70 08-17-2004, 11:49 AM Most likely, I think the Zeta sedan will end up with a new name based on recent GM vehicles. However, I think Chevelle would be a good fit. There would not be a backlash like there would be if Monte Carlo was used since Monte Carlo has traditionally been a 2 door. I don't think Caprice would be a good fit. Caprice in its final form was an "old man's car" and does not have a good resonance with the general public. Randy Donutboy97 08-18-2004, 12:50 PM my bet is on Monte Carlo. It would either be caprice, monte carlo, or a brand new name. Caprice as stated before has the immage of old mans car, and as stated in guionm's previous posts, the zeta car will be marketed for performance unlike the previous impala SS's. but we will just have to wait and see. Z28x 08-18-2004, 01:36 PM Bel-Air would only work on a retro car, we need a modern sporty sedan. Caprice = too 80's, as a 25yo I can tell you that young people do not want to drive a car called Caprice. Monte Carlo and Chevelle are the best bet for a reused name. Monte has been a 2 door for a long time but if GM can pull off a 4 door that looks like 2 (see: SS concept, Charger concept) it will work. Like was already said, RWD and V8 will be trade for the coupe body. Z284ever 08-18-2004, 01:39 PM Anyone have any thoughts on Laguna? Or maybe it's just time for a new name. johnsocal 08-18-2004, 05:35 PM I'm betting on Belair. | ||
