2004 Pontiac Grand Prix Pics
I don't know what it is about the new GP. Somethings not right.
The car is not bad, but it is not good, either.
There's certain elements I like and many that I do not.
Somethings wrong in the front end. Is is the lights or the grilles? I don't know. Maybe it's too bulbous or clunky in the front end. Same with the back end. Why is the rear bumper so low? Gives a minivan look, or should I dare say it, an Aztec look. Maybe the trunk lid is too high. The taillights look too large. And that winglet has to go.
And what's with the beltline kick-up at the rear door. The window should have just curved down like the current car.
Speaking of the exterior, it looks like a cross between a Bonneville and an Alero to me.
The interior is the same story. I like some of the basic shapes, but not the detail. I love the wrap around dash. Reminds me of my '73 GP, which I loved. But the details blow. Why are the outboard vents stuck in those little pods that are raised above the surface of the rest of the dash? And the steering wheel. The center hub should have just been round, not that triangle thing. It looks like the Vicks Formula 44D emblem. I do like the aluminum looking spokes.
My gut reaction is that the current car is better looking than this one.
To me, this car screams "we didn't know what to do with the GP, so we just did something." What that "something" is, is a whole different argument.

Whatever happened to just making a car look good? They tried too hard to make it look like a Pontiac. Looks like a mini Bonneville to me. Why not just make it distinctive and different. Just because it's a Pontiac doesn't mean it has to look like the whole line, just different size. Saturn has the same problem.
Boy, those Aztecs though.....

some of the details are not well thought out; primarily those sleep-inducing wheels.. the shiny-happy 5-spoke design in place for a decade now has GOT TO GO. all the derivatives PMD uses all look like autozone hubcaps, like someone else said. And huge fender openings call for bigger diameter wheels. I don't like the way the inner taillights blend into the body in those awful-looking bulges. I don't like the center shape of the steering wheel. the bottom edge of the back door windows should follow that ridge instead of curving up in that clown-like look. something about the hvac/radio area looks cheap. there should be a flat and horizontal area on the passenger's side dash top part. for temporary map/phone/whatever storage. otherwise I like what I see.
