number77 08-13-2004, 02:29 PM something i don't see right now is where gm stands. ford has just created the ford gt, shelby cobra concept, and the shelby cobra gr-1 concept. all fabulous high end cars. the only fast thing we have see from them is the cien concept, which is old! i know we have the new z06 coming, but when are we getting word on the blue devil. is it still coming out or what? i realize that in the gm vs. ford thing, there are markets that both of them don't always share. exaple is the vette and z06 for gm and ford doesn't really have anything in that category (but the cobras are getting close). but what about the super performance divisions? we have seen ford put out 3 high end sports cars in the last year(concepts) and none at gm. are these dream cruise concepts suppost to be high end? or mild rwd cars?
Big Als Z 08-13-2004, 02:31 PM GM stands for making cars, not dream cars and concepts.
number77 08-13-2004, 02:37 PM if that came from red planets mouth, i'd assume it would mean that the ss concept is very close to reality.
Big Als Z 08-13-2004, 02:41 PM We have seen GM have a product rush, how come Ford hasnt yet? Chevy is releasing 10 new cars, Caddy is gaining more ground in the luxury performance segment, Pontiac is getting back into the game, Buick has 3 billion to play with, Saab is getting bigger, and even Saturn is getting a little attention from over seas.
What is Ford doing? Making concept cars, and when they finaly make it, its over 120k. Question is, where does Ford stand?
91_z28_4me 08-13-2004, 02:42 PM GM is making cars that will be built and pretty darn soon. XLR, C6, SSR, CTSv, et al are cars that more people can afford and have a better chance at getting, all have production numbers higher than the Ford GT and maybe Viper. I would rather see something that will get produced than see something that won't, it is like pissing in the wind.

sorry, that just changed my perception. so i guess ford is trying to make an image while gm is taking care of businiess.
Fbodfather 08-14-2004, 12:03 AM well..remember, we don't talk about future products.
That said, a couple of things to think about....
One.....we gotta stay in business. Concepts do not pay bills. That said, we have put out some interesting concepts in the past year or two......
(hint...didja ever look at the chassis that goes under the Solstice???)
the Caddy Sixteen......have you perhaps read about a GM Powertrain Plant that will be building "special engines?"
http://web.camaross.com/forums/showthread.php?t=291206
The V-series Cadillacs are nothing to joke about.......(yup high-end..but that's what you were talking about with Ford Concepts)
The Buick Velite may not be your cup of tea...but what lies underneath that skin....well.......I won't say anymore.......
In a perfect world, I think many at GM would love to have 600 hp Silverados and exotics all over the place. But we're in business to make money......and while those are nice to have, there is only so much capital, so much manpower, so much bricks and mortar, etc that decisions have to be made and resources allocated.
Now..for those of you who think that making money is a bad thing.......if you have a pension/retirement fund/plan, it most likely has investments in GM Stock. And if you aren't old enough to have a pension fund, then go ask your parents.....you'll most likely find that their fund/plan does.
soooooo....that said, I guess it's a GOOD thing we're making money, no???
Finally, GM is, by no means, perfect. But....perhaps you and I will sit down some day and have a private talk.......and when you see the bigger picture, perhaps you'll understand why things are the way they are.
Big Als Z 08-14-2004, 12:21 AM Another thing is that Peolpe are treating Ford as just Ford.
What about Merc? Linc? Aston Martian? Jag?
Red, Im ready to sit down and listen. :) Maybe next time your in the NJ/NY area!
Fbodfather 08-14-2004, 12:29 AM Where are you on the Jersey Shore? I was just on Long Beach Island in Early July.........
Big Als Z 08-14-2004, 12:31 AM In the Asbury Park Area. About 20 mins north of Seaside/Toms River.
