Im getting my car repainted silver next week and was wondering how long i should wait (if at all) to wash and wax my car. Does the paint have to settle or something like that? Ive remember reading somewhere where it said to wait a couple weeks but i forgot exactly what it said. Anybody know about this?

i thought it was 10 days or something to not wash it (it should definately be cured by then) and like 30 days to not wax it
someone correct me if i'm wrong

Never heard of the washing rule, but I'd wait a week. Wait a month before waxing....you can still use 3M Glazes though, they won't interrupt the curing process.

You can wash the car asap. They'll wash it as soon as they are done painting it because they will need to rub your car to get out any imperfections, (if they are a good shop). That's why you should look for dry rub spots where they didn't polish the rub.
You should wait about 6 weeks before you wax it so that you give the paint time to cure. If you must do something then stay away from the silicone based products. There is not a shop in the world that can reproduce factory baking.
I hope you're not going to Maaco, the paint and quality is worse than factory.

3M Hand Glaze is a good product to use on freshly painted vehicles. A lot goes a long way..trust me...as far as washing it...u should be good to go after a few days.
By the books you technically are supposed to wait 90 days ( 3 months ) to put a layer of wax on new paint. Until those 90 days they say to use polish and Hand Glaze. I suggest that, sometime after ur first month think about getting ready to wax it...cuz 90 days is more than enough time for paint to cure...especially with the new chemicals and products mixed in with base paints these days. So wait atleast a month and go for it...

well from firsthand experience, you can wash the car when you get it back from them, the shop will even tell you just dont scub it. the paint can even be wet sanded and buffed the next day, because do you think that they spray it perfect on the first go around? it is near impossible to not get orange peel and runs. it doesnt take long for paint to dry and if they have a baker which they probably do if they are a big shop, then it should be ready for anything you can throw at it once you get the car back.

Better give this thread a bump. I have the same question too. My girlfriend got her Tahoe painted and the shop told her to not wash it for 2 months! I can't see why you would need to wait so long. I agree with badblack, I know they have to get the imperfections out after they finish painting.
