Autocrossing Suspension help

I wanted to see if anyone had any tips on shocks for autocrossing. I was thinking of buying some Bilsteins but wasn't sure if that would be the best option since I have nothing done with my springs in the first place. It's either do something to the shocks OR do something with the springs. Which would make more of an impact for a Z28? Thanks for the help... I have a score to settle on the track this year, so I have to get my car setup ASAP. :)

konis or koni/bilsteins would help for sure

and a 35mm front sway, and search here for suspension handling :)

I cheaped out and got off the shelf Bilsteins a year ago. With that and a 35mm front sway bar, I was in FStock for nearly a year. I don't think it matters all that much between Bilsteins and Koni, especially when you first start out and you are on stock springs. Higher springrates are a different story.

If you just want to go as fast as possible for as little money as possible, then get some good R compound tires on the biggest rims you can fit.

Heather, if you do something with the springs you NEED to do something with the shocks. The stock shocks don't even work well with the stock springs.

First, have your shocks been replace before or are they the original shocks?

Second, you BESt bang for the buck would be a 35mm sway bar, either the solid Suspension Techniques bar or the Strano 35mm hollow bar. You might or might not want or like a larger rear bar, I use a 21mm LG Motorsports bar but I like a car with a little more neutral handling. Your stock bar is 19mm.

Obviously, you have enough mods where you won't be running in a stock class anyway so your suspension choices are wide open.

I use a combination of Koni in the front and Bilstein in the rear. If you decide to change shocks, I would do the springs at the same time so you won't have to take everything apart twice.

ok, thanks that helps. I already have the swaybar. The shocks have been replaced. what springs do you use? Did you just cut them? thanks again for the help :)

Heather, I use Ground Control coilovers in the front with Eibach springs designed for the coilovers. They are 500 lb springs. In the rear I use 125 lb Eibach springs with Ground Control adjustable spring perches.

Neither of those your probably looking for! What shocks are you using right now?

They are pretty much the same ones that come stock. I have Bilsteins but I'm waiting to but them on (until I figure out the whole spring situation).

The BEST recommendation I can give you Heather is to call Sam Strano. He will spend quite a bit of time on the phone with you discussing your specific needs and will get you what you need... nothing more, nothing less. Even if you didn't buy from him his advice and expertise is invaluable. It will really be the best phone call you can make for your car.
