I keep having problems with bad sound, cheap decks, etc and I just want all of my music (about 10GB) in my car. So I decided to sell the CD changer I have and my deck and start over. I'm looking at amps right now, but what I was thinking is getting a computer in my car. However, I don't want to deal with a color display since I can't afford touchscreen. Scrolling through menus is extremely dangerous and I'm afraid of the fines I can get for having the screen visible to the driver. So I want something like an Ipod has for playback, but I don't think thats possible from a computer (without just getting an expensive color screen and making it just dull text). I'm really undecided on this one. ANy ideas at all? My latest idea was to get a portable DVD player and just mount it in dash and put all of my songs on one dual layer DVD.

why not get a kenwood music keg? its like a changer but instead of cd's it using a removable harddrive that plugs into a usb cradle on your desktop to transfer files to then just drop it back into the cradle in the car when you are ready to go. it comes in 10GB and i think 20GB but in any case its just a notebook harddrive so im sure you could just by a notebook harddrive if you need more capacity.

I was considering that but I own 3 kenwood decks and I am not happy with them at all. And the music keg is way to expensive. I decided just to get a DVD player and burn a dual layered DVD with all of my music on it.

I ended up getting a DVD player in my car and burned 2000 songs to 5 DVDs based on style. Its great!!!! I love having so much music available, I have the screen to view the playlist and for searching (when I'm not driving), and I hooked up an NES!!!

I didn't get an IPOD becuase I could install a computer for about the same cost and could build an IPOD for quite a bit cheaper.

I've seen a lot of people just control their computer playlists with winamp + a external number pad. 4 for back, 5 for play/pause, 6 for forward, etc.
