well i am planning a new project since my 87 Z28 is now done with the LT1/T56 swap
i want to build a carb 383 and put it in a third gen but i am having some trouble with deciding which trans to go with!
i am building a stout SBC and going to shoot the gas (250+) through it but will a TH350 hold or should i go ahead and get the TH400
it will also have either a narrowed 12bolt or a 9" that is setup for 3rd gen
just let me know what ideas do you guys have?

350s can be built just as strong as 400s for the most part until you get into really high hp numbers when the 400s extra beefyness starts to come into play, and teh 350 has less rotating mass, so you save weight and less drivetrain loss.
Just curious why are you not goin with an OD tranny?

I don't have much use for TH350's. I am on the 4th one in my Firebird.

Wow, what kind of setup are you running to get those kinds of numbers? I'd say either a TH400 or a glide. :)

i am running a 350 block that has all kinds of work done to it. all steel forged internals from Eagle and JE forged pistons that are around 12:1cr and top it off with a set of AFR 210s and some single plane intake and a demon carb around 1100 cfm
then there will be a NOS direct port kit on it that will be coming on out of the hole
the front suspension is going to be all chromemoly tubular pieces on top of 90/10 struts and trick front springs and the rear is going to be stock style with chromemoly but the shocks and springs are going to be converted to coilovers and put on the back of the housing and removing the panhard bar and making a custom track bar like on a 4 link
and the whole car is going to be rewired and i am going to keep the headlights/taillights/brakelights and thats about it
but the motor is built(shortblock) and i am waiting on buying the car (hardtop) and trying to get other priorities in order so this is no major rush because i just finished my 87 Z28 with an LT1/T56

Hurst makes a kit but you will also need a longer driveshaft, also I recommend a poly trans mount and a kickdown switch.Plus you'll need a 400 yoke for the driveshaft.

If you want that much hp, i would go with the turbo400. its alot stronger, it weighs more. But not liek awhole lot more. A turbo400 weight alot less then a stock 460le, i know that for a fact.
