I can't decide. Requesting opinions.

Hi, its been a while. Anyway I can't decide which forced induction kit to go with between the PTK turbo kit and the Procharger with a F1 head unit. Both have pros and cons. What I like about the procharger is the self-contained unit and the fact I wouldn't have to let the blower cool down before shutting the engine down. What I like about the turbo kit is it'll be cheaper overall and will make more power. On the down side the the turbo kit will be somewhat more difficult to install I imagine due to the design of the manifolds. As I stand now I'm leaning more toward the turbo kit due to the simple fact I don't think to procharger can deliver the power to the pavement I'm looking for.(800+ rwhp) without nitrous. The powerplant I'll be using is a 355 w/6" rods and callies crank, oliver rods and a set of afr competition 227 race heads. Any of your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Especially Rich's and highlander and the other regulars I've seen on this board for years.

Of course, i'm a bit biased... but i say go with the turbo. If for no other reason, simply because it's so easy to adjust the boost. your car can go from timid to uncontrollable with the turn of a screw.

Is your car a 6-speed or auto. 800 rwhp seems like a nice goal. :) How much is the PTK kit? Also what turbo are you planning on running? Is this car going to be a daily driver?

I love turbo cars, I have one my self. Turbo cars do require a degree of self control though. You can go from timid to uncontrollable with the turn of a screw but you can also go from timid to BOOM if you are not carefull.

The PTK kit is a breeze to install. Heck the headers drop right in, thats the only difficult and time consuming part.

I test fit my PTK hot parts and was very impressed how easy it went together. Kinda sad to realize the added weight of a head unit negates the weight savings of a K-member...
I'd say go with the PTK kit - but then again I also prefer a turbo.

Turbos also dont strain the snout of the crank, dont cause as much in the way of parasitic loss, and have more "bling bling" most of the time :D

The car is a 6speed. It won't be a daily driver but I want it to be able to be one if I choose. The PTK kit is currently $3400 without the turbo. It has a water to air intercooler. The price will be a little cheaper for because they are currently revising the kit. They are redoing the headers to make them easier to install and designing an air to air intercooler. I also don't want the FMU that comes in the kit which is $100 or so. I'm probably going to run a Precision 76gts since I'm running the big heads. I'm not sure but I think the turbo flows 1800+cfm and should spool around 3600 rpm. Greg from PTK said he'll keep me posted with pics of the revisions through email. I am leaning more towards the turbo because typically with a blower car the rwtq is around 30 ft/lbs less than the rwhp and with a turbo car it can be as much as 100 ft/bls more than the hp.(On average.

true, peak TQ will be higher with the turbo car, but the big difference is down low- a turbo(properly sized) will make full boost at a lower RPM.

for 800rwhp.. you are going to be kinda inbetween a PTEsmall 88, and a 76. Wonder if they will build you a T76 with the slightly larger 88mm's exhaust turbine. thats what I would do :-D

Oh, I'm sure they'd build me anything I want if it is in their power to make it work. All it would take is enough money. I'll probably go with the 76gts. and be happy with what it makes.(Which should be alot.) The 76gts is good for 1100 fwhp. I've seen a 95 mustang with a 347cid, AFR 205cc heads, and a PTK turbo kit w/ a turbonetics 76q-trim make 798rwhp and 886rwtq with 15psi. On a 50-50 blend and 18psi the car made 863rwhp and 949rwtq. The exhaust side of the head on the ford AFR flows better than the Chevy but I'm sure the setup I've picked is adequate to meet my goal. If not it will be close.

If anyone wants to see that dyno I have it saved in my email, let me know and I'll post it.

The 76GTS will make good power and spool a little quicker then the PTE88. Only real limit on the 76GTS is the smaller exhaust housing.
