Gettin frustrated

Maybe you guys can give me a hand. There are some days when the irco starts right up. Its fuel injected but i still need to give it a lil gas on a cold start. After the car has been running good part of the day sometimes if i park it for a couple of hours and go to start it back up she wants to turn over but doesnt. :confused: Had tune ups and normal sched. maint. but cant figure out wtf is wrong. Maybe distributor coil any help much appreciated. :

do you have headers? because when you put headers on a camaro, it runs right by the starter, even stock manifolds will cause the starter to get hot, my friend had this same problem...when tthe starter gets too hot, i tjust won't spin, it almost seems like you have a dead battery...the thing that fixes this is a headshield over the starter. and most older engines start a bit rough when they are cold, that is pretty normal.

klumb im pretty sure it always cranks he just says sometimes its giving him a hard time turning over and getting running.

I would do a full tune up, cap and rotor for the coil, change the fuel filter if it hasnt been done in a while, plugs if they havent been done in a while.

Does it smoke at all when it starts up? If its an older motor could have a little bit of compression blow by.

EDIT: i read through again and if the only problem is it takes a couple extra seconds cranking to start when hot then its what klumb said. My car when its hot takes forever to turn over with the crappy starter but always does. Solution - get a new high torque ministarter

Yea, it doesn sound like you have starter heat soak.

If you do replace it and you want to run a mini starter, some LT4 starters can be had pretty cheap and work very well. I have one on my 383 and it has no trouble cranking that engine.

Ok tune up was done bout 6k miles ago but the coil was never replaced. Plugs, wires cap and rotor button fuel filter. It was off the road for a bad oil pump which was a bitch but i also lost my license for a criminal speeding ticket (whoops) :cool: Starter was replaced. Its a relativly new bat but to get it goin it needs a boost. Now lack of compression...... After we got the oil pump in we decided to live large and run pipes off the motor. Never had any problems with it until now (asdide from tight emmisons laws unbenounced to me untill i got 500 bucks worth of fines for an illegal exhaust. If it was a compression issue wouldnt it have started the minute we ran the new exhaust instead of 3 weeks later???

try checking your engine grounds....sounds rediculous but i had a loose ground when mine was doing the exact same thing. there should be at least 3 but my motor had 4 and after the swap it has 5 now.

also the heat soaked starter will do that too. the larger older starters can have that happen but it shouldn't unless you have modified a few things.

If I had a bad ground wouldnt that stop the enginbe from being able to start ireegardless of whether boosted or not?

i'm telling you what my solution was....after having the starter, alternator and ignition system checked it was a simple as a loose ground. may not be yours but it's an idea...take it for what it's worth.
