Cahill93Z 07-30-2004, 01:34 AM silver '04 - BOV, exhuast
45 roll he got the jump and got a nose of the start, when i got to the top of 2nd i pulled back even, hit 3rd and he started to inch becuase of my ****ing long 3rd gear, once i got into the powerband of 3rd (105) i walked by him and shut down at (118) with him at my back bumper, the guy just hit his brakes and turned.
This ill felt good becuase he was being a ****ing dick and siad i would need a lot more in my Lt1 to hang with him .....tool
NightWindDriftr 07-30-2004, 01:47 AM I don't know much about Neons, but was this a stage 2?
black97z28LT1 07-30-2004, 01:52 AM No def. not a stage two, probally just a stock SRT-4 w/ a blow off valve at that. They are pretty damn quick, just watch out...boost controller and you might have been toast
TXZ28LS1 07-30-2004, 01:58 AM sweet kill. he probably thinks he had you though cuz he was just a tad bit ahead. but if you edged him out in your lt1 im sure that gives alot of the ls1 guys confidence to eating these up...
Cahill93Z 07-30-2004, 03:45 AM i almost put a full car on him would have been more if i stayed in it, but 118 in a 45 was fast enough. It had a BOV, and cat back exhuast, my friend had one for a short period of time before it got rear ened, so they are no stangers to me.
Garbage 07-31-2004, 04:47 AM Ya those things can be fast. I raced a lightly modded one a few times. 2 from a slow roll, i only put a few cars on him becuz i couldnt get traction. But then we went from a stop and i proceded to stomp him.
stereomandan 07-31-2004, 11:30 AM Good kill. The SRT4 is growing on me a little, but I still don't like it. One thing I can't believe is how frickin narrow the stock tires are. Look like the size you would find on a Geo Metro or something :)
There are a few in my area that I'm looking forward to meeting up with sometime. One is blue, and the driver seems very cocky, and stupid, roasting tires on busy streets, etc.. Begging to be shutdown.
Depending on what he has done, it will be a good race.

feeling the exact same way about the SRT-4. I read somewhere that they come with a switch that advances spark timing to take advantage of higher-octane fuel. anyone know anything about that?

Stage 2 SRT-4s have this ability, if the "turbo toys" option is paid for.
shady54 08-01-2004, 10:26 AM stage 2? what does that do? how many stages are there?
Big Red Jim 08-01-2004, 10:50 AM stage 2? what does that do? how many stages are there?Currently Stage 1 and Stage 2 are available, Stage 3 is coming. Here's your reading assignment. (http://www.mopar.com/perf_srt.htm)
AlmostfastLT1 08-01-2004, 11:19 AM There is also a stage 4 coming out. Alll the stages come with warrenties.
AlmostfastLT1 08-01-2004, 11:20 AM Also, when they mean 300hp it is usually to the wheels, bc to keep insurance down.
dlx3200 08-01-2004, 12:21 PM I saw one at the track yesterday run 12.4. He had slicks and I don't know what else but it was loud as h*ll. I ran a 04 srt-4 before. I pulled on him but I was impressed buy it. They run good for a four banger.

Gos2Slo 08-05-2004, 05:32 PM I've run one from a stop, no bottle, stock SRT-4. I had two carlengths on him at about 100 feet, wasn't worth the gas really.
BUT, they are pretty quick for a wrong wheel drive car, if they made them in AWD or RWD they'd be something.

I have a *very* difficult time believing you put two cars on it in 100 feet unless there's some mods you're not telling us about. My SRT-4 went 3 tenths quicker than my LT1 did at the same track, in the same conditions.
izzyz28 08-05-2004, 11:12 PM I'm also pretty impressed by the SRT-4's. A guy at work has one. I believe it's an '04 and bone stock(at least he says it is). We always play around when we leave work, and man, it that thing impressive! From a ~20 roll I can put a car on him by about 60-70 MPH. The first time I raced him it surprised the hell out of me. I asked him to go from a dig but he just shook his head and laughed. He knew I had the traction advantage. I have also seen a Stage 1 sitting in the parking lot at work, so I'm going to ask around and see if the owner wants to do some "testing". We also have a chasis dyno(Clayton), so maybe we can find a way to dyno a couple of these Neons. BTW, does anyone know how much those things weigh?
Steve Y 08-05-2004, 11:18 PM They weigh about 2950 w/ full tank of gas and no driver. They put out about 225 whp stock. But being a turbo car they mod cheaply, easily and well.

Don't know where you're getting 2950 from. Mine's 2825 with a full tank. It also put out 241whp last week.
yellavette 08-06-2004, 12:37 AM a 150 shot isn't enough to put 2 cars on it??

That kid just got it a few months ago, he's only 17, and he can barely drive it. He was turning high 14's @ 95 or something when he came with us to the track a few weeks ago. I went for a ride in it with him, and we were going 85+ in front of Burger King on State, I thought we were going to crash. Then he was driving down Weiss in 1st and 2nd, revving the engine and popping the clutch, we got torque-steered right into the gravel.
It's stock as far as I know but he's talking about getting a stage 1 kit for it.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, that's the kid.
I see him in my neighborhood a lot. So what are his thoughts on the car?
Now I'm not sure if I want to race him because I'm worried that he would crash into me. ;) Torque steering sucks. Another reason I like RWD.

robvas 08-06-2004, 10:17 AM He just drives it like an idiot. He knows it's not really that fast and he doesn't talk about it being fast or anything, at least not around us. People with slower cars will challenge him to races and he gets intimidated pretty easy.
Gos2Slo 08-06-2004, 12:24 PM It's cool, it was a quick little stoplight race, and he may just have gotten the car and not known how to drive it yet. I was expecting quote a bit more out of it too, so I'll have to try another one. :)
Yeah, had the bottle off when I raced him, I think it was empty anyway at the time. Now I want to race another one! :)

Ah, o.k. Maybe I won't challenge him, unless he asks for a race sometime. By the way he drives around, I thought he had the feeling that he is invincible. I guess he's just getting used to the new car. We all go through that. :)

Big Red Jim 08-06-2004, 09:01 PM Interesting. We've weighed 8 different SRT-4s in our local club, and NONE of them are over 2900. In fact, they were all under 2850.
Real life > auto rags
Johnnynsac 08-07-2004, 04:55 AM I raced friends SRT-4 when I was stock from a stop. He put cars on me. I raced the same car on the freeway, he put cars on me. I have respect for them ugly things. Since then I added headers. The outcome is the opposite. I have to play catch up at a light, but when I do catch up, I blow right buy him. I've also raced two other SRT-4's on the freeway. The outcome is the same, I just keep putting cars on them.
Big Red, how much more horses and boost do you get out of an aftermarket Waistgate? I've been challenged once again by a SRT-4
Big Red Jim 08-07-2004, 10:56 AM Big Red, how much more horses and boost do you get out of an aftermarket Waistgate? I've been challenged once again by a SRT-4
In all likelyhood the owner added a WGA (wastegate actuator) and is possibly seeing as much as 5-6 more psi of boost. They allow you to hold 20 psi at redline. In stock form boost drops to maybe 12psi at redline. That's probably around 30-40 horsepower, so it's significant.
Steve Y 08-07-2004, 12:46 PM I got 2950 from 2 different magazines. I guess those dumbasses can't even read a scale correctly, wouldn't surprise me.
yellavette 08-07-2004, 03:06 PM Don't know how I missed that....
