The 3.8 in my 98 Camaro , if you start it when the engine is cold the RPM takes off to about 2200 and then slowly comes down to a idle of about 1200 till it warms up , then it starts and idles normal when it is still warm but if you let it cool off then the RPM takes off and slowly comes down again till it is warm
Any one have any ideas ?

Not quite sure, but your car may be doing that in response to avoid stalling when it's cold... Whens the last time you had a tuneup? Is it having a rough start then just kicks in? Check your idler to, and it's even possibal you're losing your battery too...

Does it ever die on you when you first started?? That used to happen to mine and it was the fuel pump regulator. Changed that and no problems every since.

no it has never died on me but I was talking to a GM mechanic and he said it was a vacume leak that seals after it has warmed up a bit

That's what I was thinking. Mine did the same thing. Just get some new hose. It is really cheap.
