Need help. Anyone know how to network via a LAN cable?

Hey guys, bought a new computer and I am trying to get my stuff off the old one. I have it setup so that the 2 machines are connected (at least when you unlpug and plug the cable in it says its connected/disconnected) but I cannot get any further. If anyone can help let me know please :confused: .

Without more info, one thing you're going to need is a cross-connect cable if no hub is involved. Check out www.labmice.net they have a lot of information regarding basic and advanced networking.

Thanks man. I had a crosswired cable and had it so the machines were networked but couldnt figure out how to get the files from one to the other. I gave up and just plugged the old harddrive into the new machine. Worked great :D . Hardware is so much easier than software.
