any faq on billet maintenance?
any faq on billet maintenance?
looking for a tried, tested and true way to maintain and protect polished billet aluminum?
i have a few things that work really well but for rather short periods...don't have the 4+ hours a rim it takes these days in order to drive the car a bit.

Re: any faq on billet maintenance?
I put ZoopSeal on my brand new Boyd's and that stuff is awesome. Takes all the work out of owning polished billet aluminum. I've had the wheels only for 2 months or so, but they still shine like chrome and look brand new.
Check out their site - ZoopSeal

Re: any faq on billet maintenance?
i've seen alot about it but it's rather expensive just to try. all other conventional coats cut down shine by 15% or more which also bothers me. that and if it is anything like typical clear coats of earlier times i'd worry that it may yellow or peel over time causing a mess. at $900 a rim i can't afford to pick up new ones if the coating ruins the finish...
how do you go about putting it on evenly and smooth? did you notice a loss in shine? what are some general things you did when you applied it and do you have a picture?

Re: any faq on billet maintenance?
I've heard of a number of people using Zoop and nobody has complained about it yellowing or peeling. What Zoop actually does is form a chemical seal which keeps the dirt, grime, water spots, etc. from bonding to the wheels. It's a pretty simple process. you just clean the wheels with the cleaner that's provided in the kit and rinse with distilled water. Allow the wheels to dry thoroughly and apply the seal. It applies in a very thin coat and gives the wheel a kind of rainbow-like haze. Then you quickly wipe it off and apply a polish (also included), wipe that off and you are done. It's took me about 3 hours total to do all 4 of my wheels.
As far as shine goes. They are actually shine better than before I treated them. I think that was mostly due to giving them a good cleaning and the polish. But they look awesome and I have ZERO complaints. I can certainly say it did take away anything from the appearance of the wheels.
I don't have any pics I can post, but I do have some I can email you if your are interested.

Re: any faq on billet maintenance?
of course i'm interested.....i only have a hotmail account so anything over 100kb might be sent back but i'd love to see any pics you'll share. i'll definately look into it, sounds like it might be worth a try.
thanks.

Re: any faq on billet maintenance?
i've had chrome wheels, while they look good they don't have the same custom look as a good billet set of wheels. also the chrome wheels are often cast since you can't chrome billet and they are very very heavy. now a set of chrome forged wheels like the centerline wheel would be nice but then you'll need a +58 offset.
anyway new wheels is not an option.
