2004 Grand Prix to have 250hp NOT 280

Contrary to most reports on the forum here, the 2004 Grand Prix GTP will have 250 horsepower, NOT 280.

beat you to it

Guess I beat you to it by 2 minutes with my post, ha ha!! ANyways, I was also kinda bummed that it is only gonna have 250hp. The 280 x 280 sounded so sweet, why can't they ever turn concept into production 100%.

Well, what i don't understand is if the Monte and Impala get the 280 hp version why wouldn't the Grand Prix? It's still a really nice looking car but needs some better wheels. Any interior shots?

The GTP and ImpalaSS will share identical engines.

For a shot of the interior go to www.thecarconnection.com

I am assuming the Monte Carlo SS and the Impala SS will share the 250 hp motor.

I believe there is no 280 hp engine at this time.

Disappointing. Really, what's a whole 10 horsepower in the grand scheme of things....

Woohoo!!!! 10hp!!! Now that's something to get excited about!!!

(I'm being sarcastic, of course- why GM didn't design the car for the FWD caddy transmission is beyone me- then 280hp would've been no problem)

Just curious.....

Anyone know what changes were made to get that extra 10hp?

Just read the article. My guy got everything right except the horsepower rating, so I guess I can't beat him up too badly.

Cool c'mon now

I think, overall, the car is a SUCCESS!

And remember, GMPD will probably create a version with more HP.

Also, about the wheels, This is obviously a GT model the GTP, and top model (17 in.) will have better wheels.

250hp is nothing to laugh at, and torque is what counts anyway (280 ft/lb) I think the hp increase came from a more efficient supercharger.

I'm sure it won't disappoint, as a starting point.

OK - NEW GTP

HP +10
LB +??

I bet there are a lot more LB's added to the new body style than 10HP can make up for...

Man, they even unveiled it in my back yard. Very unlikely place to introduce a new car. I was under the impression that the Big 3 thought we only like trucks here in Texas.

I can't wait to see this car in person. True, its only 10hp, but we'll have to wait and see how it performs. I bet this thing will own some Nissans though I'm thinking GM is leaving themselves some room to increase hp in the future with this rating.

When I first saw the G-force withe paddle shift, I thought "No way that will be on the production car". I think thats a step in the right direction.

As I posted in the other thread, 280 hp is just a pulley change away (less than $100). Fords are not the only cars that benefit from that neat little trick. Overall I like the car, but we will never own one because the coupe is no more. But I guess that's what the GTO is for, right?

the reason is Tranny

Was watching a program on TV about this Grand Prix (MotorTrend TV, or something) and they specifically said that the reason GM is not putting 280 HP is because the transmission will not handle such power reliably. IN other words, trannies will break before warranty period expires.

This means that Impala SS and Monte SS will both be limited to 250HP because they all share the same tranny. Unless they beef it up, we will not be seeing 280.
