Should you spray an LS1 off at Car Wash?
Should you spray an LS1 off at Car Wash?
I have owned a couple LT1 cars and due to the Opti Spark I never washed them once with a pressurized hose, is there any part like that on the LS1 that would lead one to not try to wash it too?
Thanks
Thanks

Just dont directly spray the coil packs or any thing elese electrical. Its ok to get them wet, they are meant to handle rain and road water. Just not a direct spray of water at 60psi. It also doesnt hurt to spray the engine down with a good cleanser. I even spray my LT1 down without any problems.

I would imagine it's fine.
I've always been warry of spraying my engine directly due to the opti.
I know plenty of people do it, but water will find it's way if I point it wrong.

I've powerwashed under the hood of my car 3 or 4 times in the last 2 years, and I think I've kept the motor running every time, just to evaporate as much water as I can right away.....don't know if it's right or not, but so far [crossing fingers] it hasn't hurt anything
. I just don't spray directly at the wiring block near the windshield on the passenger's side, and I don't spray directly at the coils for too long either, but otherwise, I don't think it's a bad thing to do

Here's the way I think about it. Engines were designed to take a shower, not a bath.
Having said that, when I clean my engine I do one of two things. If I'm at home, I spray it with simple green, let it soak a little, then rinse it off with the hose (no attachment).
If I'm at the pressure wash, I spray it down with their "engine degreaser" (ours smells like "Comet") and let it sit while I soak the wheels. Then I set the dial to rinse and head back to the engine. I spray it down, but don't oull the drigger for the high-pressure. So, I'm getting a low pressure rinse.
If you don't let the engine get out of hand (gunk building up, etc) then you should never have to really scrub it down or do much more than hit it with a cleaner and rinse it off.
I've been spraying LS1 engines since Spring of 2001 ... never had a single problem.
