Angry Flying t-top on the highway.....

I was driving on the highway today, doing about 75 and when I rolled my driver side window up, the passenger side t-top went airborne!
I've seen this happen to other people before so I guess I'm not the first one, but WTF? I was lucky that it flew away in the grass or God knows what could've happened. (there were several cars behind me)
The shade is destroyed but luckily the t-top is intact. I found it with the handle in the open position although I'm sure it was closed before I drove. (the car came with different tops so I do not have the keys to lock them)

I put the top back on and tried to take it out with plenty of force and it won't come out. How could this happen?

What should I do?
Thanks.

Re: Flying t-top on the highway.....

basically, you didn't latch it all the way or something
happened in my 92 rs
my buddy put it on and forgot to latch it, flew off right about 60 mph
it broke andi had to get a new one though, you got lucky (i also got lucky though and didnt hit anybody)
i'm sure you just didnt latch it properly
and with the wind, it just sucked it right out

o, and guess what my buddy drives now? a 97 camaro with t-tops

You didn't have it latched all of the way...that's the only way it could've happened.

My friend had an 11 second 4th Gen and when he was at track he trusted his buddy's to put his pass. t-top on. He thought everything was fine untill he got about half way down the track and the pass. side t-top flew off half way down the track. Leson to be learned here, alway's check your t-tops after being put back on expecially by someone else. Also, remember to always lock them down no matter however it feels you dont need to...just my.02

Same thing happened to me. Girlfriend didn't fasten it right...

Junkyards in the area asked 250$ but we got it from someone from fbodyjunk.com (90$ w/shipping)... at the least thats what the top had written on it.

When I go down the dragstrip I make sure that I have the securely latched and then I lock them to make sure.

Wow.......that sucks!

That's something that I'm always paranoid about, if they are on the car - they're latched and locked.

I've dropped one, onto grass once........glad it didn't break!

Re: Flying t-top on the highway.....

I noticed that the prices are coming down on ebay for t-tops. I guess I better not let my g/f latch her side anymore.

I've never actually locked my t-tops in the several years that I've owned my car, and I've never had a problem.

Re: Flying t-top on the highway.....

I make SURE I personally latch and lock EACH ONE IMMEDIATELY upon putting them on. I got distracted once, and paid the price at about 60mph. Mine flew off in the t-pike and shattered, luckily it did not hit anyone
Prices have gone down, though, I got a mint set of 95s locally for $125.00

Laterzzz...

Re: Flying t-top on the highway.....

you could take the tops to a lock smith with your door key and have it matched
