Factory Fog Lamp Function

I know factory fog lamps were introduced with the 1985 IROC-Z. For this year only, they only function when the low beams are on. Then in 1986, GM changed this so they function with parking lamps only or with low beams. This applied through the third gen years. What about fourth gens? Do they function with only the parking lamps?

I'm asking because my '00 Lightning's stock fog lamps only function with the low beams, as well as my '02 Mazda MPV's.

It would be nice if you guys' could list the year and function. Thanks!

Mine work with my parking lights and low beams.

The reason for this is simple... It is illegal to have more than 4 lights on at one time. If they worked with the high beams, that would make 6 lights.

actually, that would be 6 lights right there (low, fogs, parking lamps)
8 is what you could do if you rigged up the highbeams and fogs to stay on (not hard from what i understand)

93-02 all had where the fogs could be turned on with parking lamps, and also with low beams

Parking lights dont count as a light. They are not bright enough.

Only lights designed to illuminate the road surface count.

With a '98 - '02, even if the foglights come on with high-beams (I've got mine rigged that way!) there are still only 4 lights on, since the low beam lights go out.

But yeah, as long as you've got the switch "on" for your parking lights / tail lights, then you can turn the foglights on too.
