Anybody in the Inkster,Dearborn,Westland area have a welder and can weld under the car reasonably well and cheap? I have a pretty bad shape rusty Mac y-pipe that keeps breaking where the cat would be. No shop around will touch it cause of the lack of a catalytic converter. I just need it to last long enough for me to find a replacement mac y-pipe and have it installed.

Is the y-pipe off the car? If it is, try Starlight Welding. It's on Woodbine in Redford(NW corner of Plymouth and Telegraph) Ive had more than a few parts welded there and was always impressed...pretty good prices too.:)

The Y-pipe is on the car still.. I need it welded to the cat back as the flange is no longer there. The last placed that installed it cut the flange and welded it. It was nice and leak free until it broke. The problem is the shop that did the work doesn't want to work on it anymore cause they say it is too rusty to weld well... Which I agree with.. But I just need something to hold it together and queiter until I can get a replacement... Driving around with an open y-pipe is just too loud and obnoxious for me.

Get one of the 3" wide stainless band clamps. Wrap it around there and tighten it up. That is how my y hooks to the catback.

Well Muffler dave wouldn't work on it... I guess it is just that wasted and I should give up on it. Oh well, time for a new exhaust setup I guess.
