More power needed95camT 07-12-2004, 11:58 PM ive got a 95' 2.4L and im looking to up the HP/torque with around 1-2grand anyone have suggestions? i wanan be able to beat the little hondas with american power :D deadmeat2004 07-13-2004, 12:43 AM Welll, with a 2.4 it really is little american power, the only way you are goning to really blow them away without doing an engine swap will be to supercharge it.... its very high though, if you were going to do that it would be easy tpo do an engione swap. What is that lil beast in anyway? If you are wanting to stay cheap, cold air intake, and an exhuast is your best bet. Hope this helps!!!! 99blackSS 07-13-2004, 01:47 AM I think the 2.4 was a typo for 3.4l. With two grand you could sell your car and get a Z28 of the same year. OneSickSix 07-13-2004, 02:01 AM You forgot to include the major price difference in insurance for V6 and V8 f-bodies :) 95camT 07-13-2004, 03:39 AM yea sorry about that, i meant to put 3.4, ive already got the intake on there and insurance would deff be through the roof...im runin out of ideas, SC are way expensive, do they sell chips for these engines, what would new cams do for it? TIA 99blackSS 07-13-2004, 03:48 AM Insurance goes down with the age of the car. I did a quick online qoute on what it would cost me for a 95 3.4l compared to a 95 Z28, the difference in insurance was about $250 a year for full coverage. Just for the record, I don't have any grade discounts or anything like that.:shame: OneSickSix 07-13-2004, 11:29 AM Neither do I - infact, I have no tickets and have never been pulled over - ever.. BUT I'm 18 and insurance on a Z28 would rape ME personally -- I'm only paying $63/month full coverage on my 6-cylinder... 95camT 07-13-2004, 01:43 PM damn you guys are lucky on insurance, i live in NJ so insurance is through the roof PLUS im only 17, i could probably afford a Z, but the insurance would probably be around 1500 a year. If i went to ajunk yard and found a good z28 or ss motor or something.. would the be worth buying and dropping in? or would it be more cost effective to do something else to the car? deadmeat2004 07-13-2004, 02:41 PM back to your question, they do have programmers for our engine, but kinda high for the gains you could get. Ummm Yea, cams would help, they can make a 3.4 sound awsome. They can make it real lopey. Do a tb bypass, gets you about 1 hp! It sounds kinda dumb, but i have a 95 3.4 not much done to it at all, but when i go to race, i have a traction prob. Stock sized tires, but they are just wider. They are good tires, nice tread but being a standard, they like to spin, even when i hit second for a sec. Practice running your car helps to. Is it an auto or 5speed? You can learn when to shift and all of that crap that can really help. Put a cutout on it...tb (throttle body) bypass, if you want get a prgrammer, there just a lil high. Hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. 95camT 07-13-2004, 04:16 PM thanks i appreciate it.. yeah its an auto, ill look into some of the suggestions u guys made, see what gains most/least and all.. thanks again 95camT 07-13-2004, 04:31 PM ok.. another question.. do they even make superchargers for 3.4l's? ( i figured, hey why not look into one, maybe ill save up) i couldnt find one anywhere.. the closest i found was one from rksport for the 3.8 ( and rksport is kinda expensive) i saw tons for the 5.7l's for pretty cheap (around 3500) but i could find any for the 3.4l , not even on ebay, and they usually have all that junk.. anyways, if anyone knows of a site with a SC for the 3.4 plz post it or e-mail me @ Echo_Bravo1717@Hotmail.com TIA weak95bird 07-13-2004, 05:27 PM on a 3.4 you want to go with a turbo and their are a few kits around and a few diy guys that made them for the 3.4.. The best kit I have seen around is the one made by tiago it is 3,000 and is bolt on you do have to get rk sport headers (or have a shop bend the piping so it will fit to diff headers) and prob have to get a betta clutch and a msd dis 4 ignition haha and cant forget a lsd :)... the site is www.forcefedfab.com 99blackSS 07-13-2004, 08:01 PM Originally posted by OneSickSix Neither do I - infact, I have no tickets and have never been pulled over - ever.. The quote said something like $1,097 every six months for a 95 V6 and something like $1,224 every six months for a 95 Z28. I guess it varies greatly person to person. But if your already getting really ripped off like me I guess they can't rip you off too much more for a Z28. atl2001 07-14-2004, 02:24 AM Originally posted by weak95bird on a 3.4 you want to go with a turbo and their are a few kits around and a few diy guys that made them for the 3.4.. The 3.4 heads are not a good super charger head I think. FastWhiteTA 07-17-2004, 01:02 AM With the 4 grand you put in a supercharger, that surely would offset the cost of a few hundred more $$ of insurance per year. That is pretty funng you saying an extra $60 a month is going to "kill" you, but you might be willing to fork out $4000 to make the car run 13s, when you could buy a stock LT1 to run 13s, put a cam and headers and run 12s. LT1 cars aren't that expensive anymore, find a used one and mod it slightly, or......If you're really THAT worried about the insurance, I would swap to the LT1. That would run you about as much as a supercharged system probably would, and make more power. Be sure while the engine is out to put a cam and some Long tube headers on there. With just the LT4 hot cam you're looking at 320 rwhp and 330 rwtq or more. Even a supercharged V6 won't make near that much hp. You'd have to upgrade to a T56 (darn) to handle the V8s tq. LT4 hot cam fbodies are running 12s all day. Yiou'd probably also need mostly new accessories and PCM, etc etc...so..... My recommendation would be just get an LT1 Z28 or Trans Am, much less hassle, unless you love to work on cars. OR, if you just want to beat Hondas...just put an intake, headers, and exhaust on your car, and maybe even a mild cam. You're screwed. It's called insurance fraud when your company finds out. They won't pay **** for your accident and you could possibly get sued. not worth it | ||
