keithyscamaro 07-11-2004, 04:01 PM I am thinking about seriously buying this black z28 1998 camaro but i am going to have to trade in my moms van and give her my 1994 v6 camaro the car costs 7900$ and for the van I will probably et 3500$ So i am left with a bill of probably 4400$ and i have 600 in my pocket now. Should i go ahead with this deal?
rokudan 07-11-2004, 04:15 PM IF the car is in decent shape, I would use any possible means to get my hands on it. I had wanted one for years but the means were not there. Recently, I became able to make it happen, and I did...
keithyscamaro 07-11-2004, 06:10 PM The car has high mileage about 99,000 though but i figure we can rebuild the engine next year any way and make it a lil faster! lol

Just because it has high mileage doesn't in itself mean that you'll need to rebuild. If it's in good shape it could go 200,000 without a build.
keithyscamaro 07-12-2004, 02:02 AM yea thats true but if we do we can make it faster! I was also wondering what are the stock hp numbers and torque numbers??
Nittanymarine 07-12-2004, 03:06 AM do it
Gloveperson 07-12-2004, 07:57 PM For a 98 auto I would say about 280 RWHP and about 290 RWTQ, which is of course well above what the factory rating says it should be ;)

UMM I THOUGHT FACTORY RATING WAS 305HP/335 T
YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK THAT UP AT LEAST AT THE FLYWHEEL
Gloveperson 07-12-2004, 09:42 PM That was the factory rating, but it is worthless. LS1 F-bodies were heavily underated in the power department. In reality it is probably more like 335-350.

keithyscamaro 07-14-2004, 11:33 PM The car was sold on saturday! It was too late... Any ways do u know where else i can find a 98-02 camaro z28 cheap???
keithyscamaro 07-15-2004, 01:16 AM I just found a 98 ss camaro with 46k miles for only $9995! and its has t-tops its white. We are going to look at it tomorrow its 40 miles away from my house. So do u think its a good deal??? I am gonna trade in my ****ty v6 94 camaro and my moms 98 windstar GL.
redzsmoked212 07-15-2004, 10:03 AM well keithy whats your mom gonna drive then you dont really want to share your ss with her do you but if you do that deal is great jump on it if the car is in good condition:metal:
keithyscamaro 07-15-2004, 02:05 PM we are probably gonna go look at it today but my mom is gonna be stuck driving the cavalier but of course i would have to let her drive it sometimes.
Whats a good thing to check if it is in good condition that may go wrong in a automatic ls1 f body???
keithyscamaro 07-16-2004, 01:29 AM oh my god im pissed the guy said they had the car then they called today and said it was sold 2 days ago wut the...!!!!!
Does any body know a good place for me to find a cheap 98-02 camaro z28 or ss?????
redzsmoked212 07-16-2004, 09:09 AM try ebay
birdmanz28 07-16-2004, 12:12 PM yea i would try autotrader or ebay.. but uh..the deal sounded too good to be true anyway .. probably had a salvg. title being that cheap.
Lt1 and Ls1 07-17-2004, 12:32 AM Definately check on ebay. That seemed way too cheap. Was it a true SS, that was cheap for a z28 too with that kind of mileage.
DPG Omaha 07-17-2004, 07:17 AM Pipe dreamer is right....
Wanted to make his v6 look like a SS... WTF.
Wanted to change gears in rear, wanted to change from auto to manual... geez.
Stop wasting our time, seriously.
Also, what does this have to do with engine tech?
stone4779 07-18-2004, 07:04 AM dude go to autotrader.com and do and "Advanced Search" and narrow the search down to 98-2002 Cmaros with V8's between $1(ok so maybe start at like $6K and up to $10K with under 100K mi and see if theres anything close to you...if not widen the search to "Any Mileage" and see if theres any good ones.
Dont ever just assume the sale price is the minimum they will take. They were asking $15K for mine and I got them down to $11500 (TT&L was another $900) with only 24K miles.
Dont get in a rush...I waited 3 months to jump on one...watching...waiting (lol)
BTW glad you decided to go with a V8....much less hassle and its a lot better for you to start with...easy to mod and relatively cheap to mod.
You dont really want to mess around with S/C's and turbos
A lot of tuning and work goes into making one work right. Sure it can be done...but doing it right is whats hard. Not just to do but to have the means. You have to have a full understanding of them...you want to know what the sounds are that your car makes, to be able to recognize a problem what you hear it. This is especially useful when you go S/C or turbo.
And if your thinking of going with a manual watch out for ragged out motors(sorta common on stick shifts) I dont know how many 6 speeds I checked out that I could tell were ragged on.
Make sure the engine bay is clean too...dirty engine bay is a sure sign of a careless owner(like my 'buddy' at the car meet today...who has the same mileage as me but his is completely and utterly dirty as a mofo...I dont even know if he changes his oil)...but sometimes it cant be avoided (EX: 250,000 miles on the clock...you gotta expect it to be at least a little dirty)
*to some of the previous posters....please just indulge him and try to be respectful....hes gotta learn somehow..i mean come'on
He might not be able to afford anything he mentioned, or he might, but like I said...help him learn..dont just compound the problem. If we dont help him hell just get his head filled even more by someone who knows nothing. Thats exactly what this site is for if I am correct. EDUCATION and a sense of community.
Oh and stay away from eBay 'superchargers'
and there is no way to have an on/off switch for a supercharger that im aware of. Maybe in MadMax lol. Now with a turbo you can lower the boost but thats about it. But you wont :D
And half that sh*t you see in movies is bull. Like kids flying through menus on computer screens on 'Hackers' and people downshifting every time the camera angle switches (Fast and Furious, lol does it ever run outta gears?)
Magazines are pretty much the same. The times they list are usually way off. They are usually biased as well...for numerous reasons.
Off topic but gotta tell somebody:
At the car meet today I had a guy driving a Ford Focus tell me he had a 9 sec 350Z that went 0-60 in 3 sec flat.
First it was supercharged with Naws, then it was turbo, oh wait I forgot its N/A.
And to boot hes prez of his car club...(His parting words..."See ya I gotta go meet with my 'council' ")..i dont want in that club. OMG wish I had it on tape.
Eliminator 07-19-2004, 08:07 AM Take your time, Something will pop-up when you least expect it to and it could be the car of your dreams.
Malek 07-23-2004, 05:42 PM Hmmm...I dunno, wats wrong with keeping the 1994 v6 camaro for yourself?
