Whats the best way to remove these paint surface imperfections? Ive heard about wet sanding, is this the best way. If so can some one give me a quick explanation?

For really bad marks, you could try 3M's 'Finesse-It'. I've used this, by hand, and it has removed some of the more stubborn marks.

I also am a BIG fan of Zaino, and this would help hide the finer swirl/scratch marks.

Well, it's worked for me. I've received lot of "detailing business" due to using Zaino.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion of what works best, and in my opinion, nothing beats Zaino for shine, and durability.

Bro, after reading this other thread, I say you give me your car for a day, and I'll return it like it was off the showroom.

First of all to get swirls out can only be done with a buffer...Zaino, i dont care how good it is, can not remove a swirl unless applied at high rpms...

Anyway, a nice 2 step process to restoring paint no matter what the damage is....
1) wool pad with aggressive cutter type compound @1800 rpm
2) repolish with a light compound on machine wax and foam pad @ 3000 rpm
3) quick spray wax to ensure all dust is removed, keeping in mind that the car will need to be rewashed after step 2...

$80 ill fix your paint...let me know

Zaino, WILL NOT, remove swirls/scratches/"bird markings", regardless if you use a buffer or not as it does NOT contain any abrasives. It WILL help to hide swirls, etc., and provide a great shine which has great durability.

I would contact some local body shops and get some advice from someone who has the experience.

Oh yeah, gotta generate enough heat to break down all the abrasives in Zaino right?

It doesn't matter what speed you apply a sealant at, it WON'T REMOVE SWIRLS!!!!!

I am sorry for my type-o guys, i should have edited that statement more carefully.

However if you had an ounce of intelligence you would realize I was NOT referring to zaino. I dont use that stuff...."when applied at high rpms" is directed towards the comment right below it which states the wool pad + "compound" will do the trick....

For all of you rookies out there, a compound, when it comes to buffing is generally anything that is very aggressive towards the paint, not your average polish, which OBVIOUSLY zaino is.

To further clarify since all of you think you know how to detail, an exmaple of a real compound would be "1500 compound" or "Hard at it" or "smart cut"....C6 is also very good because it has minute sand particles in it.

Thanks though I didn't realize we had so many english teachers out there! :)

Thanks guys, I just picked up some 3M rubbing compound. Im gonna borrow my buddys electric buffer and do the whole car, hopefully that will get most of the imperfections. Ill let you know how it turns out!

Sorry, I didn't know putting words in random sentences that don't belong there (or so you claim) was a grammar mistake. Here you go again running your mouth like you know what you're talking about. Zaino contains no abrasives, it's not a polish...Sal just calls it that because it's not a wax. It's a ****ing sealant. Why is it that 4/5 posts here people think Zaino has abrasives in it? It won't remove ****, MAYBE fill the most minor swirls.

No one is disputing the fact that zaino is simply a paste wax. Again, I tried clarifying what constitutes a true compound, or as you like to call it, an "abrasive"...Zaino does NOT fit that description.

Now that we have identified this, slayer, 3M makes some good products, be careful not to put fresh swirls in trying to get the old ones out though! If you stay in an area too long or push too hard, generally at an angle, you will get those. You probably know this already, but just offering any tips I can for ya ;) I like to follow up with a quick spray wax then, for a deep finish - a little bit of an added shine.

Remember if you are using heavy compound, keep it under 1800 rpm or the compound sort of ceases to itself - which can be rubbed off, but becomes ineffective as the buffer will just pass right over it once this happens....a lighter polish like a Diamond Crystal 4, etc., can be stepped up to 2500+ rpm no problem.
