Extremely quick A4 question...(need answer today)

I have everything out except for the actual tranny (doing it this afternoon with daylight). My quick question is:

Do you have to take the shifter handle off when lowering down an a4 transmission?

I have an extremely good write up on installing a stall convertor and they never mention whether or not you have to remove the handle. Now common sense tells me that more than likely it needs to be removed, but I don't want to do any more work than I need to.

Thanks, and if it matters I am taking this tranny out and swapping it into my brother's camaro. I am getting his fully built a4, since he is selling his camaro.

If you talking about the actual handle in the console, Im going to say no, it doesn't have to be removed...There has to be a way that it disconnects from the tranny, like the shifter linkage or something of that nature..

Oh, doh. You have to unbolt the shifting linkage from the driver's side of the tranny. Thank you.

An automatic shifter is bolted to the floor of the car;). It's not like a standard where the shifter is bolted to the tranny and pokes up through the floor into the car:no:. There's just a cable coming from the auto shifter that connects onto the driver's side of the tranny:thumb:.

I had to take my console apart, because my cable binded up. But like stated above, it's not like removing a 5 speed where the shifter is part of the tranny.
