Intake backfire

I just moved back to South Dakota, and went to the track. To make a long story shorter, I left the line at around 3500 rpm's with the nitrous armed. I usually spin the nittos, but this time the car totally hooked, and as a result it bogged. As it bogged, I heard a loud bang, and the car died about 100 feet. Give or take a few feet. It mushroomed my airfilter, destroyed my ILE elbow and hurt my MAF. We pushed the car back to the pits, and I tried to see if the car would start, it would not, so I ducktaped all the rubber back together, and it still would not start. Got a bit depressed and went and got a soda and a cheesburger. Called a great friend of mine who told me to unplug the MAF. Walla the car fired right up. OOPS on my part. So now do you think this is a more stable plan to run my nitrous. Switch to a plate? I have the Nitrous Express nozzle kit right now. Oh yeah, the car ran just fine on the way home 40 miles. Good oil pressure, and no knocking or pinging. I m pretty sure I didn't hurt the motor or bend a valve or anything like that. Any comments appreciated good or bad.

Man, that sucks. Try searching for backfire info. It doesnt happen too often, but I have read a couple threads about it. One question, are you running a WOT switch? It does't sound like it from how you described leaving the line while spraying.

Yes I was running a WOT switch. I did take off the fuel pressure safety switch, because it went faulty and would not let the nitrous activate untill I bypassed it. And I also had plenty of fuel pressure. It sure did scare me petty bad when it went bang and the car slowed to a halt. I at first thought the rear end blew up. Which it didn't. I was relieved about that atleast

You need a window switch, that's what they're for - keeping you from spraying at too low, and too high of an RPM.

Thanks for the advice guys. A window switch sounds like a great idea. I am looking at the MSD digital window switch part number 8969.

Are these pretty easy to hook up? I am not very good at wiring. I can do it and don't like doing it, but can do. I am running the crane hi-6. Will there be a lot of splicing?

Looks like I am going to need a new WOT switch, as when I looked at the car better today, mine was only half there from the backfire.

Nah, it'll be a piece of cake to hook up.... Pretty much a 4 wire install.... I'm pretty sure you can do it no prob...

power wire, ground wire, tach wire, and activation wire.......... Dat's about it..:cool:
