I thought I read hpp shift firmness is not a good thing for trans. Also thought I read somewhere that you can set how much of it you want but on my 96 hpp that I have you can't.Maybe on the newest hpp.It seems to just have on or off.Why is doing this with hpp worse or better than doing it with external shift kit.
I also don't want heasay stories like your friends cousin blew his tranny with the hpp shift firmness set on.I want first hand or at least reliable second hand guys.:)

I've got the HPP3 for my car, and have the shift firmness set upto 100% (it can do 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%;)) so I set it to the top:thumb:. When the car/engine/trans are cold, the shifts are really firm, and sometimes there's a little "squawk" into 2nd;), but on average, the shifts just feel "good":).....definitely much cleaner shifts than when the tranny was stock. Now maybe at some point I'm going to regret having set the firmness up so high:confused:, but so far I've had it on my car for a little over 1 year, and have put at least ~20,000 miles on with the firmess set to 100%, and the car now has 39,000 miles on it:thumb: (still no problems, *knock on wood!*).
I have a true shift kit that's yet to be installed though, so then I'll be removing the Hypertech shift improver, but all I can say is that so far I've not seen a problem with using it as a means of firming the shifts, and IMO, an auto shouldn't slip between gears, and the Hypertech helps it to minimize that "slippage" by firming the shifts:thumb:.

I have had my hpp set to shift firmness since I first bought my car. That was almost 4 years ago (50k miles) and I have experinced no problems.

If I recall correctly my conversations with AT experts, the added line pressures required to firm up shifts can place added stress on the pump. The upside is that firmer sifts mean less slip, so thre is a bit of a trade-off happening.
I used HPP for a while then switched ot LT1 Edit and simply used HPP values to firm up my shifts. Over the course of 5 years I never had any tranny problems right up to the day I switched to M6.
