I've had some problems since installing heads, headers, and HSR intake. One is that the engine knocks on cold startups. Would this be a timing problem?

Knocking on startupbmillington 06-24-2004, 07:19 AM I've had some problems since installing heads, headers, and HSR intake. One is that the engine knocks on cold startups. Would this be a timing problem? CamaroStylin 06-24-2004, 09:07 AM i'd say make sure you werent supposed to use slightly longer pushrods with the new heads, and to make sure you torqued the rocker nuts on there tight enough. what kinda heads did you get? do you like them? bmillington 06-24-2004, 09:49 AM I've put on Trick FLow 23 deg. heads. I had the heads on my 305 before with no problems, gave lots of top end with headers. They're probable not the best heads but there not the most expensive either (under $1000 for alm. heads). I just noticed that the paper work says Is should use 6.950" pushrods. How long are stock pushrods? CamaroStylin 06-24-2004, 02:42 PM dont know for sure. maybe somebody else has a better idea of what they would be. Im lookin at AFR 190 or 195cc aluminum heads. 1300 assembled... more than i woudl ever wanna pay for one piece of an engine, but ya know, if they work well then i cant complain bmillington 06-24-2004, 03:21 PM From looking around I think a stock L98 has 7.200" pushrods but not sure. Could having a pushrod 0.250" too long keep a intake value from seating all the way? My #1 injector has been tapping a lot louder than the rest, even when it's unpluged. I think I'm going to buy some Crane cams 1.5 gold rockers to fix the problem instead of shorter pushrods. They were on my to buy someday list anyways. Heads are worth money if you have it. | ||
